Living Inside the Landscape: A Glass House in the Canadian Wilderness | Flag House
Flag House, designed by Studio MK27 in Whistler, Canada, is a carefully composed residence that responds to its alpine setting through simplicity, transparency, and precise integration with the landscape. Organized across three levels embedded into the sloping site, the house features a striking glass upper volume that captures panoramic views while balancing openness with the need for thermal comfort in a cold climate. The design contrasts a solid, grounded base of concrete and metal with a light, cantilevered living space above, where warm timber interiors soften the minimalist architecture. By reflecting its surroundings and blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor living, the house creates a calm, immersive experience that emphasizes connection to nature rather than architectural dominance.
