The Author’s House by SLETH architects is a compact 90-square-meter retreat in a forested landscape near a lake in Aarhus, Denmark. Completed in 2020, the house was designed as both a home and a dedicated workspace for an author, using an open-plan layout, integrated bookshelves, large glass openings, and sliding doors to connect daily life with nature. A restrained palette of copper, stone, and Douglas wood creates a warm and cohesive interior, while reused timber and geothermal heating support a resource-conscious approach. Overall, the project demonstrates how a small house can combine living, working, and contemplation while maintaining a strong relationship with its natural surroundings.
