It's a hot fan Friday, isn't it? It's a hot fan Friday.
The temperature where you guys is, is anything like the temperature in the rest of the country. It's been hot.
So today, we're gonna give you guys some tips on keeping your dogs nice and cool on these horribly, horribly hot days.
Tip number one.
Shade. Lots and lots of shade. If your dogs are outside, even just to use the bathroom,
make sure they have shade to get away from the sun and lots and lots of fresh water.
If they have a bucket outside, empty it every time you let them out and make sure you're refilling their bucket inside all the time.
Right Shelbers? Say we like water and we like shade and Shelby likes whatever's on the other side of this fence.
We haven't figured it out yet.
What's over there?
Shelby's hot.
Another thing you should always remember, never ever leave your dogs in a parked car in the heat.
Big yawn. If it's 85 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can get up to 120 degrees in less than 30 minutes.
It's like putting your dog in an oven.
You imagine that? I don't think anybody wants to put their dog in an oven.
Don't leave them in parked cars. Leave them at home if you have to go to the store.
They don't need to be in your car.
As we said when we were outside, shade and water. Water definitely a must. Shelby looks thirsty right now,
but she just drank a bunch of water. I think she's just hot.
Shiloh's hot too. Are you hot huh Shi? Are you hot?
Also, if you must exercise your dogs,
try to do it like in the early morning hours or in the late evening hours when the temperature outside drops.
Sometimes even after dark is the best time to do it and
even though it's cooler out, if you're walking them, try to keep them on the grass because like the
asphalt and the cement, it can get really hot.
And if you don't believe me, take your shoes off and walk on it.
It can definitely get warm and you can damage their feet.
You can burn the little pads on their feet. You don't want to do that. You don't want to do that. That'll hurt.
Another thing you can do if you have air conditioning, use it. It'll help keep your dogs cool, so they don't overheat.
You don't want them to get heat stroke.
So between air conditioning and fans,
that'll help them out a little bit. Take them swimming.
They like swimming, most dogs. If they don't like swimming,
you can probably get them wet at least once, help them out a little bit, right?
Like we did with you, even though you're not a big fan of swimming, you felt better afterwards.
Definitely keep your dogs inside.
You don't want them outside when it's a hundred degrees out. They're not comfortable.
You wouldn't want to be out there just sitting out there with a coat on and a hundred degree weather.
They don't want to be out there either. Do ya?
And of course, give them frozen dog treats, whether it's ones you make like the
beefy dog treat recipes we made for our dogs, or if you buy frozen frosty paws,
you know, it'll help keep them cool.
Just like us, we like eating ice cream when it's hot out. Dogs like eating cold things when it's hot out too.
Right?
Don't ya? We hope you guys aren't suffering too much around the country. Tell us how hot it was today or yesterday.
What's the hottest it's been so far?
Today it was 92 here with a heat index of 105, which isn't normal for northern Michigan. It's too hot.
One of the ways to keep your dogs cool?
Fans.
Notice where Shiloh is? Even Shelby's standing here, right in front of the fan. Yeah, that feel good?
You like that, don't ya? That feels good.
So if you guys have any good tips on what you do to keep your dogs cool, let us know.
One more thing, don't ever shave a husky.
That's a whole other conversation we could get into, but if you have a husky and you think shaving
it is gonna make it cooler, it's not. And if your groomer tells you it's gonna, they're wrong.
Just search, why should I not shave my husky? Or if you really want to know, email me and I'll tell ya.
Yeah, if you guys have any tips, how do you keep your dogs cool in the summertime when it's this hot?
What do you do for them?
I think we may have to take the girls swimming.
They look hot.
This cool postcard came from Danita1544 and it is a photo of
that she took that she had turned into a postcard of a sled dog race that she went to. She sent this to us from
Canada.
This adorable drawing of Shiloh and Shelby is from a little eight-year-old girl named Paige.
Paige also sent us a really cute letter and on the back,
I believe it was her mom wrote us a note letting her know that, letting us know that she had
surgery this summer and we just wanted to say thank you for the letter Paige and this adorable picture.
We'll have to hang it up in our soon-to-be studio and we wanted to hope that you get better soon from your surgery.
Hi Paige!
We had a couple more drawings submitted on our Facebook page. This one is from YouTube user
Marble455 and it's a really cool picture of Shelby. Thank you for that.
Then this picture we got on our Facebook page from Roxanne and it's a picture of Shiloh.
Don't forget if you guys want to submit pictures on our Facebook fan page,
it's facebook.com slash GoneToTheSnowDogs or you can of course still mail them to our PO box if you'd like to.
Also, we wanted to let you know that Shelby's birthday is coming up. It is on August the 8th.
So if you'd like to send her anything for her birthday,
birthday cards,
presents, whatever you want to send her,
just let us know when you send them that they're for her birthday and we're gonna do a video showing all the things she
got for her birthday.
She will be turning four years old and for those of you that want to know Shiloh's birthday is November 8th.
So we still have a little while before Shiloh's birthday.
If you would like to mail any drawings or letters, pictures, postcards or packages to Shiloh and Shelby for Fan Friday,
you can mail it to GoneToTheSnowDogs PO box 12, Alpena, Michigan 49707.
And if you have questions for Fan Friday, please leave them in the comment section below or post them on Facebook or on Twitter.
Thanks you guys. It's 926 a.m. It's 88 degrees and it says it feels like 98. This is northern Michigan.
It's not supposed to be this hot.
We're on our way to work.
