What you do Merlin?
What you do?
You can't just stand on me cause you feel like it.
Are you excited it's Fan Friday?
Hey! Are you excited it's Fan Friday?
I say it's Fan Friday!
I mean you crazy mutt!
Crazy mutt!
She's crazy!
Look at how pretty Oakley looks!
If you guys missed it, we actually took Oakley to the groomers
the other day and we did a video on it
that went up on Wednesday.
You should go check that out!
You can see before and after
of how fluffy and fuzzy she was
and how nice she looks now.
Of course, I'm sure you can tell how nice she looks now.
Sammy says, I have a four month old husky puppy
who is really timid around people she doesn't know.
We have a trainer and we're working with her
but we were wondering
how long did it take Shiloh to become more confident
and unafraid?
It took Shiloh a long time.
Shiloh probably wasn't really comfortable
around people she didn't know
until she was around at least two years old.
Wow! That sun is really bright
on your face there Shelby.
My biggest advice for this is
take that puppy everywhere you can.
We took Shiloh everywhere we could.
When we lived in Arizona
there was a PetSmart right near us.
We always took her to PetSmart.
We tried to take her everywhere we could
and let her meet as many people as possible.
That would be my advice.
Crystal wants to know,
how old is Memphis now?
Memphis is almost seven months old.
November the fourth she'll be seven months old.
I almost said October.
It's way past October the fourth.
What are you doing you crazy dog?
She's crazy!
Brenda says,
how do you check your dogs for ticks?
I'm so worried about taking my dogs hiking
because of ticks.
That was a good throw Shelby.
Shelby just threw that ball.
Good throw Shelby!
We use Vectra 3D on our dogs.
I'm not super concerned about ticks.
It usually does really well.
If you are in a really bad tick area
you can also get a tick collar,
a prescription tick collar from your vet
that you can have them wear
just when you are out hiking.
Are you going to throw me the ball?
Thanks! That wasn't a very good throw though.
Basically for checking them for ticks
we pretty much
lay them down, roll them over
and rub them all over.
Thank you for throwing me the ball Shelby.
I'm sorry! That's my bad.
Just basically make sure that you
put your fingers through all of their fur.
Trust me! If they have a tick, you'll find it.
You will!
Archie says, how long until it snows in Alpena?
Well, we actually had snow flakes
yesterday and the day before.
But actual snow on the ground
we don't have yet.
But, north of us in the Upper Peninsula
they already have four inches on the ground.
So, anytime now.
We really honestly can get snow anytime now.
We're hoping it will wait
until after Halloween but
you never know.
Paula says, my female dog has a nasty
habit of licking my hands when I get next to her.
Is there any way to stop this?
Whoa! She got you, huh Oakley?
Hi Oakley! Oakley is a
compulsive licker. She has a tendency
if you get close to her
instead of wanting to be petted.
She let's me do it. She let's Jamie do it.
But for a lot of people, they'll go to pet her
and that's what she'll do right away.
She won't stop until you pull away.
She'll continuously lick you.
Oakley's issue with it... I know
okay now. See, once she gets started
she like has to keep doing it.
Oakley's issue is
anxiety.
So not knowing a lot about... I'm sorry
you can't keep licking my hand.
Not knowing a lot about your dog or the situation.
It could be a sign of anxiety.
I don't really have a whole lot of tips
on how to help it. We haven't been able to
stop Oakley from doing it. We kind of just
allow her to do it because it makes her
comfortable and you know she's a little
bit older and
nowadays you know
she pretty much just licks when
she first meets people.
So well, we just let her do it.
But if anybody has any tips on that
on how to get your dog to stop licking or
how to help a dog with anxiety, leave them in the
comments below and we'll be watching for them.
Har says, how long
is the right amount of time to wait
to get another dog after my dog passes away?
This is a personal
preference question really.
It's all in what you're
comfortable with. Some people will get another
dog right away. Some people will wait a few weeks
or a few months. I know people that have even waited
years. Thanks for throwing me your ball Shelby.
Here you go.
So it's really a personal preference
and you know
all in what you're comfortable
with. You'll know when it's the right time.
Matt says,
how do you guys handle camping with the dogs?
For example, when you and your husband want to go
to dinner or something, what do you do with the dogs?
Usually when we
go camping with the dogs, we have dinner at the campground.
We don't usually go out to dinner while we're
camping. We make food over
the fire, things like that. When we
go camping, when we plan our camping trips,
we pretty much plan on the dogs
being with us at all times.
We can leave them in the travel trailer
like if we're walking around the campground. We've left
them in the travel trailer and just walked around the campground
but I don't like to do that very often. Most of the
time if we're going to walk around, we're going to take
them with us. So the majority
of the time, they're with us.
We have in colder
months, we've let them sit
in the car while we've run in to grab something to eat
but we usually take things to go and then go sit
in the car with them. So that's what
we do. Anybody else
out there, go camping with your dogs? What do you guys
do in a situation like that?
Jessie says, in your recipe from Monday
which if you guys didn't see, we did a video on
Monday, a dog treat recipe video on Monday
they want to know
why don't you use the pumpkin pie
cans? Why do you use regular
pumpkin in a can and not pumpkin pie?
Pumpkin pie in a can has a lot
of added sugar and seasonings and things
like that, that the dogs just don't need. That's why
you want to use regular canned pumpkin
not canned pumpkin pie
mix. Is the ball underneath there?
Oh goodness!
Quite a few of you this week have asked the same question
about keeping our dogs in the yard
having them not jump over the fence
not dig under the fence, not
break out of the yard. A lot of you have asked, how
do I stop my Husky from doing this?
If you guys don't know, we
have six foot
privacy fence around our yard and then part of our yard
has rocks around the base. The spots where the
dogs had been known to dig, we
started putting rocks so it would kind of deter
them. We
basically don't leave the
dogs outside unattended.
I have a big window in my dining room
if they're outside, I'm usually sitting at my dining
room table watching them or outside
with them.
Good job! I thought she was
going to throw it at me again.
Basically, the biggest tip for this is don't
leave them outside unattended. If they're not
outside unattended, then they can't
or if they go to try to jump the fence
or if they start digging, you can correct
them immediately.
Also, I think the fact that we have
more than one Husky helps
them to keep each other company
so they don't necessarily think about
leaving the yard as often as if
there was only one of them.
Amy says, do you think any of your dogs
can become sled dogs? Hi
Amy! You must be new to this channel.
If you actually go to our main channel
and in the search box type in
sledding, we have some videos
of Oakley and Shelby
and of Shiloh
being sled dogs.
Pulling sled. Pulling Jamie on skis.
So yeah, they actually
we have a sled. We have two sleds actually.
I'll have to show you guys a new one when we get some snow.
But yeah, they actually are sled
dogs. Hopefully Memphis will be soon
too. We got some
mail! We got some
mail!
Mail! In the mail today
we got a letter and a couple drawings from
Krupa who has a birthday coming up
so happy birthday to you!
And we got a couple drawings from
seven year old Sarah from California.
Excuse me Memphis. Let me show them the drawings.
There's one of Oakley.
There's one
of Shelby.
You're not helping Memphis.
And look! There's one of Memphis!
Look Memphis! It's you! Looks just like you!
And then we got a couple of drawings
from Miles.
That's pretty cool!
And here's another drawing. Looks like
the whole family and then there's Oakley
and Memphis and Shiloh
and Shelby. What? You guys all coming to
check out the cool drawings from Miles?
Thanks for sending those!
And then we got a letter with a couple
of adorable drawings from
Ruth and Eve and
they want to know, what are antler bones?
Antler bones are
and I don't have any because the dogs ate them all.
I have some more on order.
Antler bones are antlers from like deer
and elk and moose.
Every year the antlers from those animals
naturally fall off
and what happens is, the people that
sell the antlers, they have people that go
out in the woods and they find them and then they
sand them down a little bit,
clean them up and turn them into dog chews.
So there are no animals harmed
in the making of the antlers
that we sell in our store.
You guys need some more antlers because
Memphis like mowed them down.
Alright! That's all the time
we have for Fan Friday today you guys. Thanks for
