Alright! For those of you that are new to this channel...
That's Shelby! That's Oakley! This is Memphis!
My name is Jess and today is Fan Friday!
Where we answer questions submitted by you guys! The fans!
All you have to do to submit a question, is leave a comment below using the hashtag
AskGTTSD
and next week, we just might answer one of your questions!
What you think about that? Or we might do a live show.
Sometimes we do these, sometimes we do live shows.
Let's get to some questions!
Alright! I think this is a question we get asked every week, after week, after week, after week.
Since some of you guys are new, this week I'll answer it.
How old are your dogs?
Oakley will be thirteen on May 8th. Shelby is nine.
Memphis is turning four on April 4th.
Amber wants to know, if we can eventually make little treats with our treat videos?
You can take pretty much any of the treats that we make and just cut them smaller.
Then, they become little treats.
What's wrong Shelby?
But yeah! You can literally just cut them smaller and then shorten the cooking time a little bit, since they're smaller.
Ta-da! Little treats out of pretty much all of our treat videos.
Michelle wants to know, where did you get your sled and your harnesses for your dogs?
Are there any books you recommend for novices wanting to learn the sport?
Our sled, we actually got from a friend of ours. It was made by him and his dad.
I also have a Canadian kick sled that I bought from a friend of mine.
You can order those from blackicedogsledding.com
That's the smaller sled that we have.
As for all of the harnesses and everything else...
Actually, I believe this website sells sleds as well.
You can go to alpineoutfitters.net
I actually have a coupon code for them as well, which I will put down in the video description for 10% off.
I'll put a link to the website and the coupon code down in the video description.
They pretty much have everything you need for teaching your dogs to pull.
Whether it's going to be with a sled or a bike or skis.
They have skijoring set ups. They have all the lines you would need.
That's also where we got the picket line that we use when we go camping.
It was from alpineoutfitters.net
Again, I'll put links for that down in the video description below.
As for books...
I will put a link down below to a book called Mush.
I got mine from Amazon.
It's a really good book and it really goes through and teaches you all the different things you need to know
for training a dog for sledding.
My other advice would be, see if there's any dog sledding groups in your area.
I know like Mid-Union Sled Haulers covers...
There's people in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin...
There's quite a few different states that it covers.
Maybe just do a Google search and search for dog sledding groups.
Maybe you can find a group and sometimes that helps.
Then you can actually go and learn with somebody or find somebody from the group
who's willing to kind of teach you and show you different things.
That's actually one of the ways we learned.
We made friends with some people in the group and learned a few things and tried it on our own.
That would be my suggestions for getting started off.
Cynthia says,
The hair around my Huskies paw pads is really long.
We have wooden floors in half our house and he just slides all over.
I'm worried that if he has Zoomies he will get hurt.
Do you have this problem with your Huskies?
I'm going to show you Memphis'es feet.
Memphis'es feet right now...
Her fur is getting a little bit long and does need to be trimmed.
We do trim the fur on their feet.
She also said that her dog doesn't like to have their feet touched.
That's how Oakley is.
Oakley's fur usually gets pretty long before we're actually able to...
What are you doing?
...to go ahead and cut and trim the fur on her feet.
What we did with Oakley is actually took her to the vet and had her nails done
and trimmed the fur on her feet at the same time.
Usually when I do hers.
It's easier when we have a couple of extra people holding her.
We do keep it trimmed for the same reason like you said.
Because they do slide around and they can get hurt.
They'll have much more grip if you trim the fur.
You don't want to trim the fur too much.
Because you still want them to have that protection from the snow and the cold.
But you can trim the fur on their feet.
What? You just look so darn cute right now!
Actually Shelby and Memphis both need to have theirs done.
I use an electric trimmer.
It's called a Wall Pro.
I actually just ordered one.
I used it at the vet's office on Oakley's feet and it was amazing.
If I remember, I'll put an affiliate link down below to that trimmer.
So you guys can check it out.
It's kind of expensive. Totally worth it.
Very, very quiet. Which is what I like about it.
I have an electric trimmer that I've used on our dogs.
It's very loud and it's very vibrating and shakes.
It kind of freaks them out.
The one I used at the vet's office is so quiet.
I'm getting one of those.
There's some suggestions for that.
We got some mail!
Oakley's like, I'm just napping.
We got a package from Zach with some toys for the girls from Hong Kong.
What you think? What you think Shelby?
Shelby, this one's soft.
That's what I thought.
Would you like me to take it out of the packaging?
I can take it out of the packaging for you.
Shelby always goes for the soft treats.
Or soft treats. Soft toys.
We got a letter from Christian.
Christian wants to know, what color is Memphis considered?
Memphis is grey and white.
How did I know?
I should have waited and give that to you last.
Hi baby!
We got a Valentine's card from Nicky and Danette.
Are you licking the card?
This drawing is from Kylie.
This letter is from Annabelle.
Annabelle wants to know if Huskies are good with other dogs.
Depends entirely on their personality.
Some of them do really good with other dogs and some of them don't.
But that's pretty much how it is for any dogs.
Shelby's like, this is my toy.
I claim the new toy.
Yes Diva! You can claim the new toy.
We got all of these drawings from Leela.
Leela wants to know if we can do a draw my life of the dogs.
You know, I've written that down.
That idea down. I've had it written down for a long time.
Maybe this is the year we'll actually do it.
I know, draw my life isn't as big of a thing as it used to be.
But maybe we'll do that this year.
These drawings are from Everett.
Everett wants to know if we're going to make peanut butter dog treats.
We have done quite a few peanut butter treats.
This was sent to us by Autumn.
We got a card and a drawing from Majore.
I hope I said that right.
It's a Valentine's card.
Alright you guys, that's all the time we have for today's Fan Friday.
If you did not do so yet, you can go check out Wednesday's video.
Where we did a collaboration with Gohan the Husky.
And the dogs tried out some puzzle treat...
What are they? Puzzle treat...
Tests.
Yeah, Shelby did great, didn't you Shelby?
You have to go watch that video if you missed it.
On Monday, we put up a video of Kaya the Siberian Husky.
That we transported to a foster home for Harry Houdini's Siberian Husky Rescue.
Hopefully, she will be available for adoption soon.
