How to Make Cheesy Green Bean Casserole | Easy Side Dish
Welcome back to Snow Dogs Cooking where if I can cook it, so can you! Today we are making my absolute favorite holiday side dish: Cheesy Green Bean Casserole. While most people know the classic recipe, adding cheese takes it to a whole new level.
I actually filmed this on Christmas Day while making dinner for Jamie and me, but this recipe is perfect for New Year's, Thanksgiving, or just a random weeknight. It is super simple, absolutely delicious, and creates the best leftovers. This is a dump-and-bake recipe that anyone can master. We are using canned green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and a secret mix of Colby and Monterey Jack cheese.
Plus, you know it wouldn't be a Snow Dogs Cooking video without the kitchen helpers! Memphis was napping in the cupboard, Kira was hiding from the oven sounds, and we definitely had to pay the Cheese Tax multiple times.
Ingredients
2 cans (14.5 oz) Green Beans (drained)
2 cans Mushrooms (drained)
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
6 oz French Fried Onions (divided use)
1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 Cup Milk (Whole milk or your preference)
8 oz Shredded Cheese (Colby Jack, Cheddar, or similar)
1/4 to 1/2 tsp Pepper
Tips and Tricks
🥓 If you aren't a fan of mushrooms, swap the soup for Cream of Bacon soup for a totally different, smoky flavor.
🧀 Shred your own cheese! Using an antique salad shooter (like mine) or a grater makes the cheese melt creamier than pre-bagged cheese which has a coating on it.
🌶️ Want a spicy kick? Try using Pepper Jack cheese instead of the Colby Jack.
🥣 Mix everything in a separate large deep bowl before pouring it into your 9x13 pan. It makes one extra dish to clean, but it ensures everything is evenly coated.
🧂 I don't add extra salt because the canned beans usually have enough sodium, but you can use no-salt beans if you prefer.
🥘 Do not cover the casserole when baking! You want the liquid to evaporate and the sauce to thicken up.
The Kitchen Helpers
🐾 Memphis was found napping in the cabinet right where I keep the colander!
🐾 We handed out "Greeny Beanies" (green beans) to the second-best kitchen helper.
🐾 The "Cheese Tax" was officially paid three times (one for each husky).
🐾 Kira (our third-best kitchen helper) avoided the kitchen until the end because she is afraid of the oven sounds, but she definitely showed up once the food was ready!
🐾 Memphis rocked her Christmas Jingle Bell collar (sorry for the jingling audio!).
