The cabbage chronicle begins with a seed sown in a bed of fertile soil, irrigated and carefully cared for. After harvesting, cabbage is sorted, packaged, cooled and transported quickly. In just 14 days, they appeared fresh and green on the market counter.
Welcome back to the farm with me the Frontier Farmer and today I want to bring you back to
our cabbages. I think I've shown you this particular part of the farm some time back,
two weeks ago to be specific. Some portion we were planting the cabbages, some we had already planted
but now I want to show you the progress. Two weeks and there's a lot of differences.
If you can see, this is the farm. These are the cabbages I was showing you the last time
and the same cabbages we are going to have a conversation today about and I want to say as
a farmer I'm very happy. The progress has been amazing so far. The cabbages have really come
a long way. In two, three weeks this is how they look like. Very good. So as a farmer you're always
very happy when you see your crop doing much better or as better as you expected it to have
to perform and you can as you can see the heads are already developing. Let me show you
the heads are already forming up so
this is very good progress. Remember this variety is what I told you last time it's called the
Gloria F1. So what we expect with these cabbages is that because they develop very big heads
we're expecting between six and ten kilograms per head
for every cabbage. So in the next two to two and a half weeks we will be going to market.
So these are the young ones the ones that I remember the gentleman I introduced you last
time for those who are who had followed me who have been following me. This is the part that
was planting that day two weeks ago and see how fast they've come. They've really come
very well. We have not given them any top dressing. We just use just normal fertilizer
and that is it. It's just that yesterday we had to spray some we had we noticed that there
were some aphids that were starting to attack the cabbages so therefore we decided to spray some
some
sorry for that my gimbal is misbehaving on me
so we sprayed some insecticide if I may call it just to get rid of the of the
the aphid but so far so good the cabbages are doing well so anyone who will need cabbages in
the next two weeks or two and a half weeks they will be ready but we already had someone who had
made some bookings. There's a gentleman who buys cabbages and takes them to Nairobi and Mombasa
so he had booked that he'll come pick them but nonetheless
if you're doing agribusiness or farming as a business you always start by looking for the
market and you can only look for the market when you promise your buyers or the people who buy
from you that you will provide very good quality
product at the end of the season and that is what we are doing here
so our cabbages are doing amazingly well so anybody who wants cabbages and those who want
seedlings and so we also have seedlings in the greenhouse but unfortunately those seedlings
have given me a little bit of stress this time around so I was out looking for an agronomist
and I found one who will be coming to help us and tell us we've lost a number and then I'm also
seeing that a part of it is also developing something that needs to be addressed as soon
as possible so hopefully the agronomist will be here tomorrow morning and we'll look at the problem
see if we can get a solution as soon as possible otherwise we are happy here at the farm the
weather has been nasty this week it's been very very cold but you know what
all in all we did thanks to the lord for the rain and I think that is it from me today
so we can look at the background very beautiful field so I'm happy so if you need cabbages
talk to me now in the next two weeks I'll be
out in the market thank you very much until next time
