The Tata Group and all the companies within the group, including Tata Consultancy Services,
have been very actively involved in the research, supporting this research.
It goes back to 1932. Our chairman at that point of time, Sir Dorabji Tata,
his wife, Meher Bai, died of leukemia.
And consequently, he set up the Lady Tata Memorial Trust.
We have a very strong position on oncology in our country,
based on very good research, so that we can apply the results from research
in effective diagnosis and treatment.
Therefore, we need financial means, and the regular system doesn't provide enough
financial means to support our ambitions.
So we're looking for partnerships like this.
This will be a very effective one.
We are very proud and honoured that the Tata Consultancy Services
support our CMC cancer research.
And that's because still one out of three people are being diagnosed with cancer in the Netherlands,
and almost 50,000 people die of cancer in the Netherlands each year.
Our research is aimed at three main focuses.
One is to diagnose cancer as early as possible.
Secondly, we are aiming to improve the patients that have advanced cancer,
their life expectancy, by giving them individualised or personalised treatment.
And finally, if patients have cancer, their quality of life is often disturbed or diminished,
and we are trying to improve their quality of life,
even if they have cancer or are being treated for cancer.
We expect the impact to our employees and communities along four dimensions.
Healthy lifestyle.
We have launched an initiative called Fit for Life for our employees.
The second one is lifesaving, encouraging employees to donate blood stem cells.
The third one is information.
And the fourth one is fundraising.
I hope that you will join me and our CMC Cancer Centre Amsterdam team
to run a marathon on October 21, 2012 to support our cancer research.
