Hello and welcome back to another episode of Screen Tested. I'm your host Tyranth and today
is our very first House of the Dragon slash Game of Thrones episode. Don't worry we will have more
to come of course but what we're going to be starting off with is this right here. This is
Dark Sister, a full spring steel battle ready blade provided by Sordia. Now Sordia has been
knocking it out of the park with a whole bunch of their you know functional and battle ready
Lord of the Rings swords so I expect it should be a completely functional and you know pretty
beastly blade right. It has an awesome awesome thrusting tip on it. The grind lines look good.
The quality of the detailed casting things like cross guard, pommel etc etc isn't actually
terrible. It has more detail than I was expecting. There are some things that we need to go over
in terms of its specifications. The biggest issues that we have right out the gate with it is
obviously the length is really short. This is not as big as it is in the show. The one in the show
is like a full longsword. This one is only 100 centimeters long overall and it has an 82
centimeter blade length so this is a real kind of you know hand and a half you know single hand but
you obviously can still use it with the second hand of course. In terms of the weight that's
actually because it is so small it does have a really really fantastic weight and obviously the
blade geometry lends itself. It's a rather aggressive profile taper which means we have a
it only comes in at around about one kilos in total so it's got a really really bloody nice
weight to it. It does come with a sheath which is nice because obviously it just leaves you
somewhere to keep the blade safe essentially. Now we get to the really important point here
the price. It is only $129. This thing is dirt cheap especially for you know obviously getting
this quality of steel. Yeah this is why it makes sense right because obviously we talked about the
length not being 100 accurate and all these other things but for what you're getting for this price
point that is actually insane and even if I have a whole bunch of cripes $129 just for the blade
alone is actually a really really sweet deal. So if you want to pick one up there'll be a link in
the description and it does help the channel of course. Now let's get out there and let's start
cutting with it let's see how it feels in the hand and let's see if it is truly worth its
mighty price tag of $129. I mean no matter what happens I reckon it's gonna be worth it's gonna
be worth $129. A full battle-ready sword yeah. I was very curious about this one because first
off I love the design there's so much about the aspects of this blade that I really really like
however this one isn't really a perfect replica. It's kind of really short like it's supposed to
be a big long sword this is you know I mean this is a bastard sword at best it's quite
quite short however I don't know if I hate that because it's really hard to get over on camera
right this thing is incredibly light and nimble this is one-handed like absolutely that's
interesting we'll talk about that. It is very light and nimble for a one-handed sword I absolutely
love how it feels in the hand but it's not completely accurate to the show obviously.
It has a gorgeous gorgeous profile taper so the profile taper is it getting thinner towards the
tip as well as an ever so slight distal taper but it means that this thing thrusting is going to be
visceral so I've got something we can test it when it comes to its thrusting. So in the hand I'm
really really a big fan of it now in terms of its replica kind of accents all that sort of stuff
in the pitches I thought it was going to look worse than this I'm actually I think this looks
good I quite like it I thought it looked different in the pitches maybe I was looking at the wrong
pitches now there are some issues that I'm already noticing these so these are what are they called
these little transitions to the rises here these have kind of some sharp burrs on them that haven't
been removed because these are like complex castings right so if you move your hand up and
down there is some little catch points so that's something to be mindful of I quite like the detail
on the guard but there is that to note that this is not a perfect one-to-one replica it's kind of a
little bit of I would say more of a heavy inspiration but I'm not saying that's a bad
thing because how it feels in the hand is incredible oh my god oh that oh it's so light
holy ---- oh yeah okay so I'm instantly noticing these little spikes though that is something to
be very mindful of but before we got to that point it was feeling really nice especially in one hand
right hmm interesting it's quite thick at the tip it doesn't actually have a huge distal taper
so when it gets to that tip it means that it's actually hard to kind of get enough momentum to
be able to cut through things very easily I should say but apart from that holy crap that feels good
in the hand let me rephrase that these little sharp and riser things do not feel good in the
hand but the blade itself feels nice in the hand it feels incredibly lively let's see how it goes
with the bottles though because this will be interesting that was a little teary man
interesting interesting interesting let's try this one at the tip did I get you guys
yeah it's not cutting as clean as I would like
all right one more I'm going to do a thrust this way because I don't want it to
bloody splash me again special
that thrust is just incredible yeah
okay that one wasn't bad it is interesting because it's such a light sword I really don't like how
these are digging into the hands though I mean if you're wearing gloves you'd be perfectly fine
but sorry back to my train of thought let me turn that very quickly of course nice okay yeah that's
a good one all right maybe it was just a bit of my edge alignment who knows let's test the thrusting
because I want to test this against male because that's what this point here is probably going to
do really well against there's no way I was getting through that last little bit all right
let's let's thrust in Tony now thanks for holding that for me buddy oh if you're enjoying today's
episode you should consider subscribing I'd really appreciate it thanks buddy so let's very quickly
try the thrusting on our dark sister here we've got some male and we've got some gambeson we'll
probably do uh the male first and then we'll try the gambeson after the fact I reckon this is going
to blast through the gambeson with like it's not even there but let's see if we can get through
some of this real riveted male so I was able to bust through the male ever so slightly we'll try
that one again I'll hold it this way for you guys so hopefully you can see the sword a little bit
better that one I mean it made it cut through a couple of links but it didn't really go
far enough to consider what I would say is actual damage and then of course the obligatory just
bare gambeson it's it's not even there I'll do it the other way so you guys can see the blade a
little bit barely anything not even trying straight through something that I should mention also is
obviously the design of the actual blade right obviously we have that dragon theme uh all
throughout the hilt which I'm a big fan of it has a super aggressive spiky pommel so I mean like you
know pommel striking with this thing would be incredibly visceral same thing with the cross
guards as well we obviously have that you know those dragon wings for the cross guards they
slightly sweep up so actually trapping blades with this would be really really awesome and that
doesn't even include things like uh these points is how I would describe them on the actual uh
the cross guard itself so in terms of the actual design of the blade it's incredibly aggressive
incredibly gnarly obviously very dragon themed big fan of it very fantasy very awesome like I said
dark sister is one of my actual favorite uh house of the dragon sword designs
so these all are spring steel blades so we should have some really insane flex on it
I mean yeah still good yep okay flex is good spring steel now I'm gonna have some complaints
and gripes with it but like just the blade alone is worth it this is 130 129 US dollars
now you're not getting the most accurate uh dark sister sword right but this isn't really a
replica this is a battle-ready sword right spring steel sharp edge cut with it full tang
the whole shebang so 130 bucks hell yeah however now we're going to get to my complaints so without
further ado we'll get into tyrant's initial thoughts score or tits for short so starting
off with comfort it gets a big fat six yeah it's actually real like the handle itself the shape
the ergonomics the geometry is really comfortable I like it however these cast accents and rises
irritated the f**k out of my hand when I was in testing now if I put on a gauntlet or a glove
this would be mitigated but honestly there is just too many burrs like you just need to take
some sandpaper to this and refine this a little bit more to get it to feel a little nicer now
there was also I'm not going to call them sharp edges but I'm going to call them 90 degree angles
on the cross guard so there is some like fit and finish stuff I would then just take some sandpaper
to all these little edges so that it's not sharp on my hands or wear a glove one of those ones but
so big fat six for comfort next up design I mean the design is fantastic this is a thrusty boy
not only that it's good in one hand it's good in two hands it's lively it is a beautiful like
the geometry on this is gorgeous gorgeous so for the design guess what it gets a nice big 10 out of
10 next up wieldability as a like as the official sword like if you actually went and got one and
you you know you took down these little issues you've 10 out of 10 but because this particular
version does have a little bit of sharp edges around it I'm definitely going to have to take
because it does it does affect how you wield the thing right so I'm going to give this a I think
eight I think an eight for wieldability and then last but not least effectiveness 10 out of 10
like I mean this thing is a beast in the thrust in the cut and it is it's just I really like this
sword man I really not only do I like the design of it I like this interpretation as well now
obviously having a much longer one would also be really cool but I'm actually quite happy with it
so that gives us a final score of 34 out of 40 that's a little bit of a disappointment because
this is a 40 out of 40 sword like the design of it if it was refined in a like it would just fix
up some of the issues this is a perfect sword perfectly functional fantastic however this
particular example that I have here this functional real dark sister does have some issues with the
comfort specifically on the hand like it is starting to irritate the palm of my hand a bit
now if you want to pick one of these up there'll be a link down below and it does support the
channel if you grab one and it is $130 that's it like I've actually I have I thought it was more
than that I looked up the price I'm like holy ---- but for a full battle ready spring steel blade
that is this refined like the blade itself is bang on I think it's worth it hell yeah it's worth it
but that is going to be all for today I genuinely hope you enjoyed let me know what you thought
I really dig the house of the dragon interpretations of the swords because they are fantastic in my
opinion same as black fire so that is going to be all thank you guys for watching remember to
subscribe if you haven't already and as always I'll see you next week in another episode have a good one
