BROADHEADS VS BONE (Elk Hide + Elk Scaps) // SHOCKING RESULTS
Comments are disabled for this video.
Top one is sever, hybrid, oh, zot, that's a good hole, three blade.
Ben Wardell, 6'3, 225.
Riley Satan, 5'6, 140 on a bad day.
All right, first comment I see is from my friend Brandon McDonald.
Man, that Valkyrie test tested best over everything penetration
for me, over literally everything.
If you can't get through an elk with a 32 inch draw at 86 pounds with that head, it's
not happening.
So, again, I still think that was some kind of a deflection.
You're not pooping on the Jagger?
No.
Is it still a consideration?
No, just because I'm stuck in that.
You want to go lighter?
Yeah, so I can't do a 125 screw-in Jagger, I'm only, if I'm going to do a 125 or I think
at 150 is as small as they do, but I have to do like their system and I just want to
do a 125.
This is my friend Ben, he's also my PT and he's also responsible for my ability to kill
elk this year.
That's right.
No pressure.
No pressure at all.
Terra.
Forma.
God.
Terra Forma, I think that's like going to a different planet.
Latias, three blade, triple beveled.
It is first up to bat.
We are shooting through an elk hide.
Difficulty breathing.
That used to be me driving this engine right here, for real.
No way.
Yep.
Scapped.
Bull elk.
And hide.
30 yards.
You see that?
Yeah.
That went.
Just missed the spine.
I wish I would have been over like an inch out of the wind cooler.
We're going to do it again.
How's our hole through the hide folks?
Yeah.
That's a nice little.
That's a big hole.
And maybe just a touch higher.
Okay.
Round two.
Sounded good.
Center punched it.
I'll do that.
Be cool if we can.
Went right through.
The easiest part of the scap to get through, yeah.
Yeah.
It's still good.
It's also the easiest part to aim at.
Yeah.
For this thing.
And quite a bit of penetration beyond it into the.
That'll get lungs.
Three, six, five.
Yep.
Okay.
Another good hole in the hide.
The only thing we're missing is muscle.
Show the folks the broadhead.
That actually looks pretty good.
Looks pretty good.
Just a little dink right there.
That's it.
And our entry hole.
Get a hole through the hide.
A hole through the scap.
Busted out pieces on the other side.
We got real estate for more, for one more on this scap.
I think so.
Okay.
Oh, perfect.
That's.
Oh, boy.
It's another really, I'd say almost better entry hole.
Can you see that, guys?
Dang.
That's right.
Anybody disagree that that's a better entrance hole?
I don't know if it's because it was kind of folded up, but that just.
Oh, Lord.
Okay.
Let's see how the broadhead looks.
I think you almost come out of that hole.
Yeah, I think so.
My fault, dude.
It's all good.
Okay.
I think we're going to take the humerus out of the equation.
He needs to check his tune, point of impact, et cetera.
Something is off with him or the bow or both, because everyone knows that severs are darts.
I bet money it's his draw length.
You do look a quarter inch long.
Yeah, maybe.
Shorten your draw length a little bit.
A little bit.
Okay.
This guy says you draw 86 pounds like it's 60.
I would agree with that.
You are so strong.
Oh, too low.
That foreleg won't miss much.
Oh, I hit it.
Yeah.
Okay.
It's not bad.
I'll take this to knock.
And I might have shot the knock off.
Can you tell anything on entry exits?
Those two are in the same hole.
So avoid that.
This one.
These are just hard to get out, because they're beveled.
There's that collar.
Show the people that broadhead.
See how it did.
That one didn't really hit the bone.
We've got to redo that one.
These are literally in the same hole, Benjamin.
But they're in the spine of the process.
I thought I hit kind of a thicker spot.
Who went first?
Slick Trick was the second.
Okay, so the Zot was first.
And it looks like it got beat up by a Magnum SS.
I got it.
Okay.
Yeah, we lost a blade.
Yeah.
Pretty sure I lost a...
You can see two different holes.
So you had a three blade, and then a four blade.
How's the Magnum look after breaking them?
I mean, good, except for that one blade shot off.
You can see just a little...
You can see there's that blade that shot off,
and this blade's kind of like that.
Let's go something like this.
It's time to test some stuff.
Oh!
It deflected off of...
Deflection.
That.
I'm going to have to shoot it again.
Go a little higher.
I lost the bleeders.
Did you?
Yes, you did.
So bleeders are gone.
Bummer.
All right, maybe we ought to give you a little...
Here's your spine of the ridge, okay?
That's the spine right there?
Yeah, so maybe get a reference on...
There you go.
Yeah, it looks like we bent the Kyuga,
and it ricocheted off the side of that scap.
So we're going to put a new one in,
and shoot it one more time.
All right, so we're actually smart enough
to put something to aim at.
Got a little yellow.
This should be pretty nasty.
Foam, right?
Yeah.
Yep, that yellow.
There we go.
That's solid contact.
Let's see what an iron will wide can do a little lower.
Miss.
Too loo.
Just a tiny dig at the ranch with the dust.
No, when I say fairy dust,
I'm insinuating a heavy arrow.
I don't think that's a dig at Troy,
who's a friend of mine.
I have a cell phone number we've hung out.
I don't dig on anybody, man.
If it's over 600 grains,
I'm going to say something about fairy dust.
Putting him in a 200 spine axis or a 150,
his arrow spine is way too weak.
What is your arrow spine?
250.
Are they cut pretty short?
As short as I can get it.
Okay.
Well, one thing you could do after today
is maybe order like half does 200 spines
and just tinker.
I mean, I'd have to do a different arrow.
Because you bought the really expensive.
Yeah, they only do 250s.
Okay.
A Cayuga 125 will do everything you're asking for.
We're about to find out today, folks.
Oh, Annihilator can't get any love around here.
Well, honestly, I know the Annihilator guys.
They're great.
I don't have anything here.
And there's 1,000 different broadheads on the market.
So we're doing our best.
Another under spine comment by a lot.
So the internet's undefeated.
So they might be right.
Katana.
Dan, can you test the Annihilator Katana broadhead
and tell your opinion?
Again, I have put it in my hand.
And it was so much smaller than I wanted it to be.
And it was like it couldn't shave hair.
And it was right out of a package.
I just saw one like two days ago.
But I still want to test it.
It's a really cool, unique design I've never seen before.
It's hard to describe.
The last one you shot?
Tulu.
Look at that crack.
Incredible.
And it's a pretty thick part.
That's very thick.
And it cracked up in the spine a bit as well.
And then iron will.
We can pull iron will wide out.
It missed its mark.
We'll retest.
This one lost its bleeders again.
Dang it.
Looks straight.
What did it do?
It busted that thing up.
Broke that little plate right off.
But one of these.
So there's that bleeder.
Yeah.
But if you can look right here.
Is it stuck in it?
It's stuck in the ridge of that scap.
And you can see where it contacted it right there.
Almost at the top.
It's kind of cool.
Kind of cool.
Went all the way down and then stuck right before it went through.
The rest of the arrow went through.
It busted it off.
But the main part of the arrow did go through the scap and into the foam.
So not bad.
I say we grab a lady scap.
I got a cow scap.
Look at that.
Look at that thing just destroyed the target too.
That's crazy.
Oh.
A little toot-a-loo again.
I think I'll split it down this time.
Holy crap.
Look at that.
It did.
He's not going to want to walk.
Yeah.
Dude, I think he's going to hurt.
Dude.
I'm not going to shoot that again, but.
So the edge just got bent pretty bad.
But dang.
Talk about destruction and terror.
All right, friends.
We need to see what we're hitting.
So I think we're going to have to take the elk hide out of the equation.
This is not a test.
This is tinkering.
So we can do stuff like that.
It's not like a.
So I want Ben to be able to see what he's hitting.
It's not a scientific test here.
Let's get that iron will wide in the mix.
All right.
Sever.
Hybrid.
I shot an elk with it three times.
It finally died.
Yep.
Shoot just to the left of the iron will.
Yeah.
Theoretically.
It was a tinkering day.
It wasn't like a laboratory test day.
But I'll tell you what.
It's pretty early in the morning.
The wind is kind of low right now.
So we're going to go do some shooting.
You took your bow in to the bow shop.
What did you have done?
Do you know?
He messed around with something.
I don't know if it was the cameline or just the rest.
But I was shooting.
Do you put it in a press?
Yes.
OK.
And again, I was out.
I was not in there.
Well, no, I was.
No, I was in there.
I was just out talking with the guy.
Oh, OK.
He was messing around with it.
And then he'd bring it in and I'd shoot it.
When I left, I was shooting bullet holes.
All right.
So it's paper tuned.
Paper tuned.
Have you messed with your rest at all personally?
After that, I went home and messed around with broadhead tuning with the Tulu and the Slick Trick one.
Yes.
OK.
And that was, I got them pretty close to being married up.
So you kind of bumped your rest up a little.
Yes.
To the left and right.
Should we go?
OK.
We'll watch the aero flight today.
We'll get you some slow-mo.
We are testing today.
Testing.
I shouldn't say that.
We are tinkering.
We are tinkering with elk scaps, elk hide.
But first, I want to just have you shoot at 50 yards with the broadheads that we've picked out today.
And then we're going to start shooting these through.
We're going to start running broadheads.
We're going to see what these can do through.
Let's do it.
All right.
We're going to try to get Ben a freaking broadhead for North Idaho.
Shin.
Terror.
Sever.
This was, this is the sever.
Tulu, I think, was this one.
It deflected.
This was the Tulu.
And I think.
Oh, this is Iron Will.
This is Iron Will.
That was Iron Will wide.
That punched through.
Oh, no.
This is the old school.
Cayuga old school.
And that is incredible.
Yeah.
That's a big hole.
Is that single beveled?
Yep.
Or double?
Double.
That's a double.
Okay.
The old school with no bleeders.
Holy criminetly.
That's a big hole.
Are we not impressed by that old school Cayuga?
And then this is your Iron Will.
It broke everything on there.
It's in good shape.
Not too bad.
Show the camera that.
And then the sever.
What you doing down here?
Oh, you deflected.
Guys, I'm just going to say right now.
This is my opinion.
But I don't think a sever hybrid is good for elk.
I think it's great for deer.
Antelope.
Bear.
I just.
I don't know.
You do you.
Look at it.
It's like it hit.
It hit the ridge.
Right on that.
That's the spine of the scab.
Huh.
What else do we have to shoot?
Slide down.
I want to give that Zot another chance.
Because that four blade SS Selectric knocked the blade off.
Yeah.
So, I got another scab.
Do you want a fresh scab?
Do you want to shoot that one?
Can you hit right in here?
That's pretty thin though.
Old school.
Cayuga.
Come on, Ben.
Iron Will wide.
Single bevel.
125 width bleeders.
Hit something freaking good.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay.
Terra firma.
Gladiator.
Gladius.
Gladiator.
That's a cool hole.
Is that the wide?
No, that's the.
That's the last one I just shot.
Terra firma.
Holy, holy hole.
This is the old school, right?
Yep.
So, what I've hit scabs before with like the micro Hades.
It's like.
That three.
Like a triangle.
It's a triangle.
Not a that.
Not a hole.
Sheesh.
It looks like he shot it with a rifle almost.
And it's still beveling through my target.
I can still feel it corkscrewing as I pull it out.
Dang.
Yes.
Yep.
It's not molded.
No, it's machined.
That's machined.
Machined one piece.
That chucks a lot of boxes, bro.
The only thing that's kind of amazing.
Acknowledge it, that it's harder to resharpen because of that.
Are they like a million dollars a broadhead?
No.
Could a guy just, oh, I'm not sharpening.
I'm going to buy a new one.
I mean, if you want to.
I don't.
I don't want to resharpen.
I'd have to double check.
But I like to be able to like at least resharpen it.
You know, shoot it with everything.
And then resharpen it for when I'm actually hunting.
Yeah.
I really like that.
Oh, dude.
Old school.
That's a pretty thick part.
Oh, that's a very thick part.
Let's see how it looks.
That is such a thick part of the scap.
Man, that's like for Cape Buffalo or.
That's like where you don't want to hit.
It looks pretty freaking good.
Are you kidding me?
No bend at all.
It looks pretty straight.
Good Lord.
That's in great shape.
So there's that.
By the way, rest in peace to your ultra view arrows.
These 1Ks.
I'm sorry.
We'll talk to our boy over at Easton if you want something.
Or maybe try some victories or some Eastons or something.
200 spine.
The internet has spoken.
Whatever the internet recommends, I guess.
Guys, what arrow should he run?
He's going to listen to you and drop down to a spine 200.
What should he run?
This is the Zot.
I'm going to have to unscrew it.
Keep that collar on.
She looks pretty decent.
And this is our iron will wide.
And it's I would say the iron will wide.
I don't know if it because it kind of went through a hole,
but it was definitely buried the deepest out of all these targets like past.
I feel like you got to sit the iron will wide one more.
How about we put the iron will wide right here?
I'll just keep shooting it until I hit something fun.
Scoot up and just put the iron will wide right here.
I'm like really excited about this.
I kind of want to go grab another two loop just to freaking.
Might as well.
See what I can get through.
Just go center, you think?
I don't even know.
Yeah.
Rolling, Ray?
Yeah.
Grab the two loop.
We're doing one more.
I think everyone that has some kind of thing that you attach to it
has been removed at some point during this process.
Even blades that slide in.
Yeah.
Okay.
Brand new virgin toodaloo.
Mother.
Oh.
Terra.
Firma.
Gladius.
Oh, perfect.
Nailed it.
Both are going to be.
This is your terra.
Terra firma.
This is your.
That's tooloo.
Tooloo.
Tooloo, that one's really deep in the target.
Still going.
Okay, there.
And then iron will wide.
That one's, this one's buried in the target too.
Just pull it all out.
Okay.
Take that needle out.
Boom.
What do we got?
The iron will broke.
That's a thick section.
And looks pretty good still.
That's thick.
And that's the wide too.
Wow.
It does have.
That'll buff out.
Maybe not.
That's a grouse arrow now.
Or a grouse broadhead.
Terra firma went through both scaps.
Tooloo made this hole?
No.
No, it went through where the other holes were.
How's that hole look on the tooloo?
Fine.
It's just, it's a smaller hole.
So.
Because it's just a two blade.
You want this one free?
Sure.
Okay.
This one, it's still used.
Chipped on the tip.
The tip of that is chipped off.
Bummer.
Target broadhead.
Wow.
Impressive.
Three-ish.
That one did pretty good.
That one's shot through scaps like three times or four times.
Yeah, we have not touched this one up once.
All right.
We're going to finish this video with some tailgate talk and figure out what Ben liked.
G2.
All right, friends.
If you stuck around this deep in the video, thank you for watching us tinker.
This is truly, we're working with Ben to get him confidence.
We're searching for what gives you the most.
This is not a lab.
Nothing was uniform.
Some of them had hideover.
Then we couldn't see what we were hitting.
So then some were just scaps.
Some were double scap.
Y'all know what we did.
We're trying to see like durability and hole size and penetration, all that kind of stuff.
So one thing I know for sure is we ruined all your UV arrows today.
So thank you for sponsoring the video.
This video is brought to you by Ben Wardell, physical therapist.
Here's your entire lineup.
I need you to take two out right now for sure.
Which ones would you take out, remove?
So since we're shooting through bone, trying to shoot through thick parts of the bone,
anything that had like a bleeder, something thin that was attached to it, I just didn't like the performance of that.
Okay.
And the Tiuga Pilot is coming out and then the Sever.
Sever Hybrid and the Tiuga Pilot.
Yep.
It's not saying they're not bad.
It's just saying that doesn't give him confidence.
Okay.
You said bleeders.
This has a bleeder.
Does that stay in?
So that one shot a lot of scaps and that one had no issues with the bleeder.
So that one is definitely still on there for me because the hole size was big
and I think I'm going to get a little bit more of a circular hole.
That one's definitely still on the table for sure.
All right.
So we have these two, three blades.
You had the, gosh, Gladius is what I'm going to call it.
And we had the Zot from Tiuga.
You have to eliminate one.
I'm going to eliminate this one.
This one has some like all the blades you kind of stick in there and then the collar.
I just, I don't like that.
You want a one piece?
I just do not like that design.
Okay.
It just seems flimsy to me.
This one is impressive for how many shoulder blades and just bone it blasted through today
and still looks pretty good.
Put a really good hole through the hide.
And it's still kind of sharp.
Oh, it is.
And it put a great hole through the hide.
Yeah.
That one is definitely on the.
This one might be the most durable one that we tested today and the Iron Will wide.
Just durability wise, they're looking pretty good for all the stuff they shot through.
But this is a three blade.
This would be a pain in the butt.
It's got some cons to it, but we're not talking about that right now.
So that's still in it.
Iron Will wide is still in it.
Yep.
All right.
Let's talk about the old school from Cayuga.
I don't remember which hole it made, but it was.
Insane.
It was really big.
I'd want to kind of play around with the flight of it.
Yeah.
Just to see if it flew good.
Okay.
But otherwise, I'm not opposed to shooting that style at all.
Okay.
The Tulu one, I just really like how much that rotates in the target and it can, like
this is the one that fractured the base of the scapula all the way through.
Didn't it crack it?
Send a crack to the base?
Yeah.
That's insane.
That was impressive.
Also, it got a little dinged up with it, but I don't know if I had something that dense
and I just get a little nick and I still kill the elk.
I'm not worried about that one.
Okay.
And it does fly well.
I like how it flies.
It's just, like you said, nervous of blood loss potential with that one.
Four blade did pretty good.
Yeah.
That's how I like that one.
That blade would need to be replaced, but it did fine.
Yeah.
No, I have not had any issues with that one.
I don't remember how many times we shot that one through.
I think only once.
We only took a shot at once.
But it also hit another, when we shot that one, it hit one of these other ones.
That's right.
We knocked it off and it did not really take a ton of, like a tiny little nick out of that
one.
Yeah.
Pretty minor.
Did we, did you figure out anything today besides that maybe your arrows are partially
underspined and maybe your draw length is a quarter inch too long.
Your bow is attuned.
I would say your bow is definitely tuned.
Thank you to whoever did that, but you lean in one way or the other or you still got more
testing to do?
Well, I'm probably going to, honestly, I'll probably be in the woods with two different
arrows.
Okay.
I'm probably going to, I'll take two out there.
I don't want to go, I'm going to pick either this one or the Tulu, the Iron Will Wide or
the Tulu for that kind of single bevel where I think I got to maybe shoot through something
that is not ideal.
But this one, I'm a big fan of that one for the little wider hole.
Awesome.
And just the durability of it.
Definitely durable.
All right, guys.
Well, that was our torture test today.
When it comes to the hide, looking at the height of the elk, I don't know, man, like
I liked having the hide over the scap and shooting at 30 yards.
You know, that could be kind of what you're going to face in North Idaho.
And if you guys are hunting, like maybe you're hunting an open country elk or maybe you got
to take further shots or follow up shots.
I don't know.
I think, I think this is maybe something you got to do is spin some dough and ruin some
stuff to figure out what gives you good confidence or talk to some good reliable sources.
You know, the one that if I was to probably narrow it down to two, it would probably be
these two right here, the Iron Will Wide and this Gladius.
Pretty impressive today.
And I'd never heard of this until today.
So it's kind of cool.
I know the Cayuga stuff is legit just because all of my buddies in Australia freaking crush
big game animals with that, water buffalo and stuff.
But Tyler, anything catch your eye today?
I was just impressed at how well that one held up.
I was also impressed with the old school, how well it did.
And then just a note, like this, the Slick Trick for affordable broadhead.
I mean, they fly really well.
Four blades instead of three.
Good square hole.
It's kind of hard to beat.
Like, if you're on a little bit more of a budget and you just need something that flies well
and it does relatively well, it's up there.
Definitely.
Especially when you're comparing price points between, because these two are not free broadheads.
No.
Nothing's cheap anymore.
All right, guys.
We love archery.
We love tinkering.
We love testing.
We're trying to vet stuff before the 2025 elk season.
Separation is in your preparation.
We'll catch you on the next one.
Josh.
Nice to meet you, man.
Ben, nice to meet you.
Pleasure.
Let's go take a look at it.
Let's go do it.
His jaw length's long, but I don't know if it's that long.
So he's not pushing.
So I heard you shot an elk and didn't get a lot of penetration.
That's where this whole thing started at.
Is that correct?
I guess that's kind of where it started.
Way up, way up.
Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
Okay, so the bulk of what your movement is is actually still happening here.
It's less here.
0.5 equals.
31 inches is what you physically measure out at.
So yeah, it'll go shorter.
I can shorten it a half inch in like three minutes.
Safe distance in front of the launcher and then we'll account for a collar.
Go ahead and set it down.
Percent plus.
Predictable outcomes.
