FERRET PARTY! Bonus Weasels Meet 'The Modern Ferret'

I recently had the very good fortune of meeting Hayley and Channing of the Instagram and YouTube channel The Modern Ferret. So as you know I have a very, very special guest to meet with me today and they're actually here in my hallway being completely attacked and mauled by Kate's dogs. Actually not. But it is Hayley and Channing from The Modern Ferret! There's Channing! Hi! And here's Hayley! And we're going to go downstairs and we're going to go and meet my ferrets! You're actually going to lead the way. You guys are going to head on down. Oh, apparently we're this way. Yep, we're going to go down again because I live in the basement, essentially. I'm a basement dweller. Welcome to MZLT! I've seen it on YouTube so many times! You are so sweet! Oh my gosh! Wow! You aren't kidding. These enclosures are so nice. Oh, thank you! Fern Habitat would be very happy to hear that. Oh my gosh, these are so nice! Look at this! You know, just keeping the humidity up. Oh my gosh! So who's in this? So this is Okie Tokie and Vexus. Okay, puppies, you have to go out. Puppies out. Come on. Come on, puppies. Let's go. Miko! Miko, away from the treats. Get out, Miko. Go. Bye. Okay, love you guys. Bye. So this is Okie Tokie and Vexus. They are my two Tokie geckos. I'll probably be able to show you one hiding around the back. So look at this. Isn't that so cool the way that just comes out? Is she back there? Oh no, she's hiding. She threw me for a loop. She's normally back there. I'm sure she'll be out later. But we do have cockroaches for you to look at. I saw that! Oh my gosh! They're food cockroaches. Yeah, different than your pet cockroaches. Very different from the pet cockroaches. So what kind of cockroach is this? Those are dubia roaches. They're very high on all the best proteins. So we eat them? Yeah, we eat them now? Yes, now you eat them. Yes, you eat those. What's on the other side of this enclosure? Oh my gosh! It's my nudie-dudie bear. It's so nice. It's just the perfect place. As soon as I walk in, I want to see ferrets, so I have your calendar. Look at these little potato body boys! Awww! Dobby, Niffler, this is your auntie Hayley. Hi! How are you doing? Hi! Oh my god, they're so tiny! So as you guys know, Niffler doesn't have two brain cells to rub together, and Dobby runs the show because she's very feisty. Can I open it? Yeah, of course you can. Time to meet your auntie. Dun dun dun! Hi! He's a chunker! Oh my gosh! He's got his winter coat on. Okay, Channing, you've got to be mindful of her. She's your responsibility now. She's great. She might give you a little nibble every now and then, but she's a good girl. That's your uncle Channing! Right off the top of my head, I think you've got a good set up here. Thank you! They seem really happy. You guys! Who's that? Hi! Oh, look at you! Oh my god! Oh, he's gone. Oh no! Oh no, Niffler! He bonked his head because I don't normally have this so close to the... He normally can go behind it. He's too much. I love him. He's such a baby. Yeah, he'll go crazy. He does have a little chubby belly. Look at him. Oh no! You're getting attacked from all sides! Oh no! You are so little! I know. She's a tiny little thing. Oh my gosh! Hello, little buddy. She's just all anger. A cute little demon in a fursuit. But yeah, she's a very serious ferret. She's so little! She's just a little tiny thing. And she is so strong. She's constantly overpowering Niffler. Oh yeah? Really? And she has a thing about rubber. So if there's rubber on your shoe, she's going to try and eat you. Do not eat Hayley. We do not eat Auntie Hayley. What do you guys think of my boots? They've got smells from all the places I've been. Dobby! Dobby, we do not eat Auntie Hayley's shoes. That is very rude. You cannot stash her and keep her for later. Oh, maybe she could. You said she's strong. Niffler, what are you doing? Dobby, are you going for a ride? What's happening? They are the embodiment of joy. We asked so many people, how would you describe ferrets? So many people said joy specifically. They could have said happy, funny, but they specifically said joy. I love that! They are joy. They're hilarious. They don't take anything too seriously. They're always getting into mischief. As we can see, clearly. I hate you. You are so little. I could just fit you in my pocket. How do we think our ferrets are going to react to one another? I think Niffler is going to go straight up crazy pants and just be war dancing all over the place. I think Dobby is going to skulk away and go back home and be like, I don't know why you guys are here. So you don't have any aggressors then? I don't think so. Between the three of us, I'm sure we can control that. I think, surprisingly, Moose is the sweetest ferret on the planet. Now he actually looks like a possum because of the tail. He's so sweet to humans. Kids would not hurt a fly, but when it comes to other ferrets that he doesn't know, he gets aggressive. It's so random. I'm going to predict that Moose might alligator roll somebody. We'll be mindful of any signs that it's taking it too far. They'll probably get their bottle brush tails. They're kind of unsure of each other. They'll probably do some neck biting. If we see peeing or pooping or any blood drawn, we'll call it. There will definitely be a territorial skulk. I think our boys are going to be territorial even though this is not their home. I think that's what they're going to do. Those are good predictions. I think that Niffler is going to love every ferret that he ever encounters. I think Dobby's going to be upset that she's not the only ferret in the world apart from Niffler. I don't think she really sees Niffler as another ferret. He's just a toy for her. I think that she's going to be like, excuse me, stop eating my things. That's my shoe. Stop eating my shoe. Is she going to go? I offer my shoe to you. This is for you. This is an offering to appease the demon. What kind of cockroach is this? That is a Madagascan hissing cockroach. What got you interested in that? Because that is pretty unique. I think it was just when I started working as an animal educator and they were one of the very first invertebrates that I was taught to take out with me to go and help other people get over a fear of insects and invertebrates in general. That's kind of where it is. I just realized how gentle they were and I kind of fell in love with them. Can I hold it? Do you want to hold it? You can hold it. You put your two hands out flat. Do I though? Yes, you do. I'm one of those people that has to get over the fear then. I didn't realize that. Do you want to touch it first? Here you go. You're doing so great. Yes. Now put your two hands together. What if I don't want to hold it anymore? Will you take it back? I will, I promise. No, he won't go up your arm. He's good. He's just going to chill with you once I've moved my finger. There we go. Let me know if I'm supposed to smile and I'll pretend that I'm happy. Pretend that I'm happy. Me every day. That's great. I love that with your eyes right behind it. What do you think is that innate fear of insects that we have? Do you know where that comes from? I think it's taught and I think it's also a privilege thing. I once was very squeamish around somebody eating water beetles in Thailand and they said that only very rich people can afford to be afraid of their food. Wow. Dobby does have a knack for stealing things. She's probably trying to get after your camera. Break my heart in half. That is pure mischief. Hi. Alright, meerkat. Oh my gosh, she's so cute. You are just the sweetest little thing I have ever met. Watch your nose. You got bit by a moose the same way. Oh, when he was like eight weeks old. Dobby will do it just for the fun. She'll do it just to be bad. That's beeping. You're beeping her? Miko, you're beeping her? That's literally her thing. No, and she doesn't do it to everyone but she does like to beep and she uses her front teeth and just pushes them into your face. I've never seen anything like that. She likes to beep. Were you beeping everyone? Everyone's really well socialized in this house. Everyone's so chill and so zen. That is a testament to pet owners. You guys kind of give off your energy and train the animals to be how you view the world, right? She says as Dobby's eating the dogs. Alright, you ready to introduce some ferrets? Let's do it. Alright, we are going to be introducing Dobby and Niffler to the ferrets from The Modern Ferret. Oh my goodness. We have Newt here. We have Albert and we have Moose. Moose is literally the world's most famous ferret. Guys, take notes. What do you guys think so far? Oh boy. Oh boy, lots of sniffing. No aggression so far. Newt's like, I'm going to introduce myself to the dog. That's so cute. I think this is promising that Dobby's not initially tearing everybody's heads off. I think Moose will be aggressive unfortunately, but he does get pretty dominant with other ferrets. Albert should be fine. Newt can also be kind of aggressive. Especially if you get older. Newt, unfortunately, is pretty sick. He has insulinoma and adrenal disease and his insulinoma is pretty severe that he's often pretty shaky and his energy level is low. He's so interested right now, though, that this is actually him being pretty energetic, but normally he's wobbly, sleepy, speed bumps all the time. But you're a hoppity old man. Yeah. Are you ready to come out? Oh my gosh, Albert. Will you come out? Can I get you? Come on, Chonka Monka. I'm going to close this just for a second because Albert will not stop. Okay, so we've got some solid butt sniffing going on. No nipping yet. That's nice. Gosh, he's so big, isn't he? Yeah. I'm surprised he's bigger than Albert. I used to think Albert was a big boy, and then I met him. He's not even in full coat or his full weight. He gets bigger. Moose, look what's going on over here. I think this is a really good way to go as well because Dobby is more feisty than Niffler, so this should hopefully set the precedent for everyone being a bit more calm. I'm not seeing any bottle brush tails at all from anybody, so they don't seem too on edge right now. They're pretty curious. If anybody's going to bottle brush, I think it's going to be Dobby, but she's already being very telling and she's hiding away. Oh, interesting. Hey, Moose. What do you think, Moosey? Hi. Are we all sniffing, sniffing? Who is that? Was that a snake or was... It's the cockroach. Oh, it's the cockroach. Is that a snake hiss, a cockroach hiss, or is that a ferret? They all hiss too. Dobby's like, I'm not coming out. I'm too good for all of you. Here you go, Dobby. So I think Dobby is where we could have an issue, especially with Moose, if they're both a little bit territorial, but we'll see how they do, and I'm going to leave this open for her. Excuse me, I don't want to squish you. Oh, I did squish you, I'm sorry. They're squishy, it's okay. Get them, Niff. Okay, well that wasn't disastrous. No, nobody's freaking out. Oh, hi. Is that your enclosure now? Did you hear that? I just brought it just in case. Dobby. Feel stroke. He feels like polished wood. He doesn't feel gross. There we go. It's like a leaf, like a fig leaf or something. He's not good with his words. You don't normally think of bugs having weight. He's heavy. He is a chunkster, that's for sure. He's just chilling. Wow. Okay, I can do it. He came, he saw you conquered. It's a noodle of a different sort. Here you go. You've caught snakes in the wild, so you know exactly what you're doing. I like snakes. She likes you. She's warm, and that's a good feeling. I got my other noodles right here. Hi, boy. They hiss. Watch out. Okay, maybe I got so carried away with the ferrets that I forgot to keep on filming on my regular camera. So here, enjoy some phone camera footage because I failed at being a YouTuber. Man, they're all getting along so well. They really are. I think it's a really good group. It's a nice little business. Oh, is he too soon? He's so bouncy. There are some days I just can't stop him from bouncing. This is a renowned technique. Oh, no. Ma'am, you're causing a disturbance. Ma'am. Ma'am. What do we call this? Ferret fishing. I love it. Ferret fishing. Dobby. This is going to be the third one that you've attacked and eaten. Dobby. She's like a bulldog. Thirsty. Luckily, there's plenty of water there for them. I know. He's like drinking the whole thing. His whole head is buried in it. Super cute. Oh, my gosh. Everybody's drinking. I had such a fun day today meeting Hayley and Channing of The Modern Ferret, but it's time for everyone to go. So, we've got to say bye, everyone. Bye. He's already checking out. Sadly, all good things have to come to an end, and I had to say goodbye to Hayley, Channing, and their three adorable ferrets, but there's always next time.
