Welcome back to Practice with Purpose episode 2. Today, I'm at the Oakville Modern Golf practicing with former LPGA tour player Emma De Groot. Emma is now aa full time instructor at Modern Golf and is sharing her knowledge and experience with so many golfers in the GTA. To get the most out of today's indoor practice session, I challenged Emma to a closest to the pin game on the Trackman simulator... who will come out victorious?!

what's going on welcome back to the
channel my name is andrew it's great to
see you and welcome to yet another
video today's video about practicing
with purpose
diving into a topic that i absolutely
love and was one of my best things when
i was traveling playing on tour
and that was competitive practice with a
friend
[Music]
okay so in today's video i'm down at
modern golf in oakville
and i'm meeting up with former lpga tour
player emma degroot emma works here at
modern golf and we're going to have a
little head-to-head
closest to the pin par 3 challenge
on the sim so we're in the oakville
modern golf
with emma degroot from australia now
yep canada is home yep we're going to do
a trackman
par 3 closest to so i picked the first
course which is saint andrews we're
gonna play all the par threes at st
andrews and then emma's gonna pick the
second course total don't know yet
total surprise so it'll be essentially
eight par threes
whoever hits the closest the most wins
emma too easy you have the teeth
[Music]
beautiful views here at st andrews i
know
it's like we're there i know i feel
about that
oh look at this chasing oh you're gonna
get a hole in one on the first try
that's too chubby that's it so eighteen
nine i'll just trade
camera for club there
[Music]
that's foreign meters 132 meters
all of those working in meters here
today
a little heavy
there's an opening of the door
76-10 beat that that's right
oh my gosh two down
i never like once i left australia to go
to college so in 2007
i've never lived back there full time
since then so
even when i played on the symmetra tour
and then i had the
year back and forth with the lpga i was
i was always over here
for the majority of the year and then
when
the winter hit here the australian tour
would kind of gear up
in sort of january february it worked
out well because he always had something
to clean and it was a great reason to go
home but at the same time never having
an off season also made it a little bit
tough to
make swing changes and get your body
right and all that kind of stuff because
you
are forever on the go but that's just
sort of the nature of the beast
my first year away from playing i didn't
do anything golf related um
yeah well i was a little bit i don't
know kind of like beat down by it i just
didn't want
it just had become such a grind and
it wasn't that i didn't enjoy playing
but
i it had just gotten so in my head and
it was such a stressful
period that i just i wanted absolutely
nothing to do with it so it was almost
12 months
between stopping playing before i
actually
even picked up a golf club again it was
watching
watching the masters i guess it was the
2018 masters or maybe 19 masters
that i started to get this little itch
back again and i was like okay and just
sort of
picked a wedge out of my bag in the
living room while we were watching the
masters and i was like
okay no i think i can find joy in this
again okay emma has selected
pga national as our next you still have
a t you're two up
two up two off the two yeah i like that
sure pretty happy with that
[Music]
i was hit wow
get left oh i think you lose a because
you're in the fringe do you lose a
little bit
is that how it works 18 10 lose 10
percent oh
20 foot seven i don't know how big of a
chipper i am that would have been just
fine there
i got kitchen wedge again the last one
yeah don't forget to hit the face this
time
that was the oh my gosh
i mean this whole video series is about
me getting practicing and getting my
game back
clearly i need this you are
three up
come on you've been practicing
there's a dip there i remember this yeah
there's a gully there
okay bit of a chance all right the
is the jar
you know i had to hit an easy six there
because i didn't think the seven would
get there and it cost me on the rollout
assume you're also hitting a six sign
like my last punch chunk of six on her
yellow chunk and run
there it is
oh there you go
one more two down
100 100 boundary for that that's
oh i think he didn't feel bad enough as
it was
it doubles your distance thanks trackman
so you just have to find ground
basically
a little off the toe a little bit go is
it enough
oh it barely covers the water
good shot have it enough it covered
enough covered
the t is yours again so it's four to one
right four to one exactly we have
essentially two to go we'll play nine
holes right okay
i gotta win them all the time
four to two that was the last one four
to two now i'll pick a course
it just makes such a big difference to
actually get your mind
and your swing ready for that
competition so even now
i mean i don't practice as i don't
practice that often
but when i do practice or when i play i
always want to play a match or i always
want to play
you know chipping competitions where you
throw them all around the green and just
you know
nearest the pin all that sort of stuff
because it it means more
so you feel the tension in your body
that you're gonna feel on the golf
course
and it just makes it all a little bit
more real doing competitive practice
with your friends
with your coach is an awesome way to
simulate
nerves yeah and that's the most
important thing that we want
you know anyone that wants to get better
at the game they need to simulate
what it's going to be like when you have
to hit that shot to shoot your low score
or win your club championship or get
your tour card
yeah and and you start to the more you
do it the more you start to learn
what your body feels like in those
situations if i know that
i've done it and been successful doing
it
whether it's indoors or in practice then
i have the confidence that i can do it
when i get out on the golf course okay
so it's four to two we've selected our
last course which is the olympic golf
course it's an olympic year so why not
it has five par threes yeah so basically
this is an 11 hole match
best of 11. best of 11. emma's two away
from winning
the nerves are getting so i've got no uh
no room for air no room for error
[Music]
oh
what's the penalty of bunker probably 70
i'm saying 25. 50.
okay 56 feet
no it runs away a lot i don't remember
that from the olympics
oh my gosh although i would like but you
might still i might have got you by like
five feet
no ten percent oh you got me by a foot
did i really
oh well i was 37 feet away but
with 50 yeah i got you you're 50
it's five to two i'm i got i yeah i
gotta
run the tables or that's it
i've been at modern for three weeks and
we've had
numerous vendor fit days and we haven't
had one woman coming to get fit from
like that that's a problem yeah and it's
it's just
it's something that i don't know that
many women think
a is an option for them or b often think
that they're not good
enough for sure for it it's intimidating
it is intimidating and then you know you
you stand there
and you have just people staring at you
hitting balls and it is a lot so
hopefully with the platform of modern we
can create a program
that makes it a little bit more
accessible
um makes it a bit more comfortable you
see women go to the golf course and and
they're self-conscious and nervous or
whatever
but really everyone is just so focused
on their own game and how they're
playing yeah
that's what no one's paying attention to
anybody you keep up with the group in
front of you in terms of actually
playing golf
everyone's happy but i think it's it is
just
it's an intimidating environment so
hopefully we can
we can make it a little bit lesser
those are really well oh
putting the dagger in come on
look at this
[Music]
[Laughter]
um okay all right so i have to hit it
inside six feet
yeah no big deal or uh that's it
oh that's so bad that that's like a good
kick
you got a bad one on the hole before so
oh
ah awful six to two
the old feeling when you can't win but
you can still
save face you can still say still get a
whole one that's true
never happened i've never seen a track
man holding one before how many hormones
do you have
i have full cow i have four less than
that oh okay
well you know there's no better time to
start than now
[Music]
that is just the most annoying shot
10 penalty yeah
though so it should just be considered
that was nice
beautiful
all right 205 yards six to three
[Music]
little under it
oh it's david
just for the 2016 olympics
you might not be in the middle huh
absolutely not i don't know
uh why team australia and team canada
didn't take us for the olympics
considering how well they're doing here
i know i think this is just we send this
to the ioc
i don't know what let's do it because
it's already too late yeah there's
another kicks just in a couple months so
i feel ready me too i could play the
chorus i feel good
oh geez sorry you've got the win
that's the i know that's the
professional golfer like
oh
all right
this is a halloween one if ever i've
seen it let's do it
i don't like know how to aim for these
things
all right you can surely beat that this
is
quite a big door for a seven to four win
sorry
doing it again oh geez i just keep being
right in between
and it worked so well last time
oh you took a little off it yeah it's
like in the hole
not too big there's probably a hill
no i was playing to the hill i got you
by two feet
you got me i think so good come back
got you by two feet so six to five was
the final tally
but let's be honest it was never close
you won six to two
well congratulations one game winning
streak well well done
well done i appreciate it all right i
hope you enjoyed that video thanks for
