I Tested Mizuno's New Zero Torque Putter

Zero torque putters have taken over the game of golf in the last few years. It's what everyone's talking about and what every brand is rolling out to market. And now Mizuno has entered the conversation. This is the MCraft XZ. Very interesting because this is only 399. It's not six, seven plus hundred dollars, but it's not $200. It's living right in the middle on this wide price range of zero torque. So in today's video, I wanna mess around with the options that we have. Roll some putts. And I wanna see if this zero torque offering can be as reliable or as good as a lab putter. So let's get into it. As it stands, MCraft X had three hosel options, multiple back flange options, weight options. And the whole thing was giving you the feel of a blade, but the stability of a mallet. You have this forged 1025 carbon steel, but now we have a zero torque hosel. And if you see basically a reversed hosel and we have two new back flanges. You have this kind of half flange and half dome and you get this kit to undo everything. And we have adjustability customization. I feel like zero torque is only these weights. I feel like if you mess with the weights, you're gonna mess with the zero torque. Capabilities of this hosel in there. There you go. That is the half flange. This is MCraft X at its core. And now we can mess around with some different looks. And you're seeing, this isn't hard. I really like that back flange, that half flange. I actually haven't looked down at this one yet. I've only looked at it in my hand. And I tested the MCraft City series earlier this year. And my gosh, they feel phenomenal. Mizuno's got some great steel and some great forging and some great milling in these putter faces. And when we tested them in January, they were unbelievable. So I'm very excited to roll this. So let's roll. This looks pretty good. I prefer that half flange, but this looks solid. Gosh, that feels good. That feels amazing. That feels like a blade. That sits really nice. This grip that they have on here, kind of a five-sided grip, great textures. Zero-torque putters are getting better and better looking. This may be the best looking one I've seen. Lab's starting to make some good looking ones, but my gosh, I don't even like the half dome. But at address, that backwards neck is not off-putting whatsoever. I hit that off the toe and that thing did not budge. That's the best feeling zero-torque putter I've ever hit off the face. I want to put the other flange back on it and roll some. So putting this one down, I actually prefer head three or shape three. When they came in the box, it came like this. And I loved looking at this and I didn't hit any putts. Hitting putts with both of them, I prefer the look of three, which is interesting because you got to try. Gosh, they feel so, so good. But yeah, zero-torque's not new. Everyone's doing it. And if Mizuno wants to throw their hat in the ring at 400 bucks, there's an obvious benchmark that it needs to be as good as or better and that's a lab. And I have a handful of labs here and I think this is the most comparable lab to what Mizuno has brought to the table, which is the Oz HS. Test number one, starting the ball online. That is what we know zero-torque putters are meant to be the most beneficial for so many golfers. Starting the golf ball online in spite of themselves. So I've got a T-gate here, 10 putts each. Let's see how these both do starting the putt online. 10 for 10. And if I'm honest, one thing that I do love about the way I configured that Oz HS, so easy to line up. Let's see how Emcraft go. 10 for 10, but my goodness, this feels phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. Test number two is the distance control. I've got roughly a 45 foot putt, kind of a friendship zone here. How many out of five putts can I get inside this imaginary circle? Because that is one thing that I've always struggled with lab putters is the feel off the face is a bit dead. So it becomes a challenge on distance control, especially on faster greens. I haven't hit any long putts with Emcraft XZ yet, but the feel off that face leads me to believe the distance control could be probably a little or a lot better. So five putts with each, how many can we get inside our circle? So we're three for three, two more. Ooh, I hammered that. I mean, that one is like kind of right on the edge. We'll give it four for five in terms of distance control. Now let's see what lab can do. Gosh, that just feels dead. Oh, two for three. The feel difference is so, so noticeable. So it is a tie four for five, but I feel like I would give the edge to Mizuno because none of those were short. The distance control was there. Three of them had a legitimate chance of going in. Last test. Final test is the off-center hit. This is where Zero Torque shines for so many golfers that struggle manipulating the face and hitting the center of the putter face. I'm gonna hit a putt deliberately off the toe, off the center, and off the heel on this uphill, pretty straight six footer. We'll do two of each, so we have six putts. How many can we make when we mishit it and hit it well one third of the time? Because that is where Zero Torque shines. It maintains speed even if you totally kind of whiff it. So now we go heel. Gosh, look at that roll. It's so good for so many golfers. Even the gate, I probably mishit a few, and it still started straight on line. So that's just where this Mizuno putter needs to shine as well. That was such a good putt. Just didn't go in. So now deliberately off the heel. Like five or six. Amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing. Toe, center, heel. Gosh, this feels amazing. Like I whiffed that thing. I hit that thing on the Mizuno logo and it just pops off the face. Zero Torque can be like cheating for so many golfers that struggle to just square up that putter face. Unbelievable stuff. Well, early results show this thing can totally hang with the lap. The performance, the stability, the MOI, the forgiveness, it is right there with the best Zero Torque putter in the game. Where I think it shines more than a lap is that the feedback off this face is unparalleled. I've tested and hit a dozen Zero Torque putters. None have felt this good and given me that good of feedback. And it better because this price point, though it's affordable when compared to a lap, it's not as affordable as the $199 Zero Torque putters that we're starting to see. So at $399, this thing needs to deliver something that is doubly better than the $200 putters. And I believe that feel is it. Yes, you have the customizations. I believe if you have other backs, you can just put the two seven gram weights and put other shapes in here as long as you maintain the Zero Torque nozzle. But this feel, this feedback, it's why MCraft X is so popular because it is basically a blade-like feel with mallet-like stability. Now we have a blade-like feel with Zero Torque benefits and attributes. That is a very, very sexy combination for a lot of golfers. Really, really impressed with this. So if you are Zero Torque curious, next time you go to a golf shop, make sure you give this a roll because I think you need to experience this feel for yourself and find the head shape that you like because that is the big hangup for a lot of people with Zero Torque is the head shapes are strange, but we're starting to venture into a world where Zero Torque is looking less strange and feeling much more like traditional putters that many golfers know and love and have trusted for years.
