EU Parliament Challenges US Ukraine Plan

The European Parliament’s latest resolution highlights growing unease in Brussels over the U.S. peace plan, which many EU leaders argue bends too far toward Russian demands. Parliament insists that Ukraine must remain free to choose its alliances and that no occupied territory will ever be recognized as Russian.

While Washington denies any shift in favor of Moscow, European officials say the plan still includes proposals that Ukraine cannot accept, such as restrictions on NATO membership, compulsory military reductions, and territorial concessions. Former Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) investigator Benoît Paré warns that these sticking points are precisely the reasons Russia went to war, making a negotiated settlement nearly impossible under current terms.
