烽火照西京,心中自不平。
牙璋辞凤阙,铁骑绕龙城。
雪暗凋旗画,风多杂鼓声。
宁为百夫长,胜作一书生。

Flames of war have set the capital ablaze,
My heart can no longer stay still and steady.
The royal order has hardly left the palace,
Mounted warriors are already routing the enemies.
Snow has dulled the bright pennants,
Howling wind has joined the roaring drums.
Better lead a hundred soldiers into war,
Than live as a sheltered scholar.

The concert "Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems" was jointly performed by iSING! Suzhou and the Philadelphia Orchestra, which premiered in Philadelphia on Jan 6 and was held in New York on Jan 7. Fifteen singers from 10 countries led by Liao Guomin, a conductor from Macau, interpreted newly composed songs based on well-known poems from the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
