Hello and welcome back to our channel. I'm very happy that you're here.
This video is about a very special part of the body.
And no, of course we're not doing a biology class right now,
but we're looking at tongue twisters with the body part, with the word eye.
The German language is full of tongue twisters.
And tongue twisters just make your German much more natural, more authentic.
And you sound a bit more like a native speaker.
And that's exactly what you want, right?
So today I'm going to show you five important tongue twisters
that you often hear in everyday life.
And of course I'll explain what they mean and when you can use them.
So that you can read everything in peace,
there is, as always, a free PDF for the video.
You can find the link in the video description below.
And if you're new, hi, I'm Teresa.
I'm a trained German teacher and German native speaker.
And now I'd say let's get started.
What does that mean?
When you close one eye, you don't see something as strict.
You intentionally ignore a small mistake.
Or you are cautious.
You use this tongue twister when you want to say,
Okay, that wasn't quite right, but I'm nice today.
For example, your boyfriend comes too late to your date.
It wasn't the first time either.
But you don't want a fight today.
Then you can say, well, I'll close one eye today.
Or your daughter forgot to take out the trash.
It was actually her job.
But she really had a long day at school today.
Then you might say, okay, I'll close one eye.
But please don't forget the next time.
What does that mean?
When you close one eye, you're planning something.
Or you're thinking about doing something in the future.
So this is a somewhat more formal tongue twister,
which you might often hear in professional or official conversations.
For example, you're thinking about moving soon.
You haven't made a final decision yet, but you're seriously thinking about it.
Then you can say, I'm closing one eye.
Or your company wants to hire new employees.
That's not official yet, but it's in planning.
Then it might mean that the management is making new adjustments.
So you see, this tongue twister is particularly good
when you're talking about future plans or intentions.
Tongue twister number three is
What does that mean?
When you look at something or someone,
so a person, then you're very interested in something.
You find something exciting, beautiful or maybe even desirable.
Sometimes you also mean that you're in love or enchanted.
As an example, you're walking through the city
and you see a beautiful jacket in a shop window.
You stop and think, oh wow, that jacket is great.
But you don't buy it.
And later, when you're at home and you think about this jacket,
you think, oh, I really paid attention to this jacket.
So you really like it.
Or another example.
A person meets someone at a birthday party
and finds this person equally likeable and attractive.
So in the romantic sense.
Then you can say, he immediately cast an eye on her.
He cast an eye on her.
A quick note.
If you like to learn such tongue twisters regularly and systematically,

Tongue twister number four is
What does that mean?
When you see something, a situation, for example, with different eyes,
then your perspective changes.
You suddenly see something completely different than before.
For example, you have lived in the country for a long time
and then moved to the city.
At first you may have found the city loud and stressful,
but now you just find it exciting and great.
Then you can say, I see the city life with different eyes now.
Or you thought your new colleague was a bit arrogant.
But after a long conversation, you notice he's just shy.
Then you say, I see him with completely different eyes now.
You have met him in a completely different way now.
You have a different picture of him.
So this tongue twister fits well when you talk about changes.
So, for example, through new experiences or simply more knowledge.
And tongue twister number five is
That means you can't sleep because you're worried, for example,
because you're excited or because it's loud.
So you're awake all night.
You stayed awake all night.
For example, you have an important exam the next day
and you're nervous all night in bed.
Then you can say, I was so nervous,
I couldn't close my eyes all night.
Or it was loud outside.
Maybe there was a party, noise on the street or with the neighbors.
Then you say, it was so loud, I couldn't close my eyes.
By the way, this tongue twister is almost always used in the past
and rarely in the present.
So actually always, I couldn't close my eyes.
You rarely say that in the present.
So those were our five tongue twisters with the word eye.
I hope you were able to learn something new today.
And I'm sure if you use these expressions in everyday life,
then your German will sound much more natural and lively.
Be sure to get the free PDF for the video.
As I said, you can find all the tongue twisters in it to read again.
