Day 574 - $200 IN $1,000 OUT

More rearangeritus near the driveway. Our driveway is 1,300 feet long, and we didn't have the budget up front to build the driveway to "set it and forget it" standards. Instead, we settled for "pretty darn good," which it is. I used concrete washout, which is super inexpensive, as a base layer, and it worked GREAT. However, we were in a time crunch, and our supply ran out before we could properly cover the entire driveway as thick as I wanted. So I stretched it thin in a few areas. Those areas are starting to show signs of needing improvement. They are fine now, but will only get worse this winter. With our rainy season about to ramp up, we decided to get a load of #4 limestone to address the worst areas.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a few free red oak logs a couple of miles away from home. I got them, sealed the ends, and listed them for sale. $100 a log or $200 per log for me to mill it to your specs. I sold one to be milled into as many nominal dimension 2x6 boards as possible. Minus acquisition cost and time, this one log works out to $100/hour revenue, and I still have three more logs from the same batch. Busy days make me feel great!
