Forest Pavilion – A Minimal Home Built in Harmony with Nature

Forest Pavilion is a home designed to exist with nature, not apart from it.
Located in the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, this residence redefines the relationship between architecture and landscape — a delicate balance between openness and shelter.

Designed for homeowners who are both avid gardeners and professional landscapers, the house follows the land’s natural contours, embracing its Douglas fir forest. Every knoll, stump, and boulder was preserved, and the house was placed gently into the site to minimize disturbance. The forest floor — soft and spongy from decades of pine needles — remains intact, creating an immersive living experience that feels truly grounded in place.

The architecture blurs the line between inside and outside. Like a traditional pavilion, Forest Pavilion is both open and enclosed — a seamless flow of air, light, and life. The design celebrates imperfection and the organic rhythm of daily life, creating a home that is both refined and resilient.

Even the abundant rain of Seattle becomes part of the experience:
A dramatic downspout transforms weather into a living water feature, while the butterfly roof channels rain into sculptural waterfalls that freeze into crystal formations in winter.

Every material and system was chosen with sustainability in mind:
FSC-certified framing and locally sourced materials
Radiant heated floors and high-performance walls
Reused elements, including a custom planting workspace and a steel firepit repurposed from an old gas tank

Forest Pavilion is not just a home — it’s an architectural meditation on coexistence, restraint, and reverence for the natural world.
