【Classical music and nature 古典音樂小站】Frédéric Chopin: Mazurka in A minor, B. 140. This beautiful piece was played by Edward Neeman. It has common licence (Public Domain Mark 1.0 Universal) and is provided through musopen.org.
Chopin based his mazurkas on the traditional Polish folk dance of the same name. While he used the traditional mazurka as his model, he transformed his mazurkas into an entirely new genre, known as the 'Chopin genre'.
Since Chopin's mazurkas are connected to the traditional Polish mazurka, some of its characteristics remain in his interpretation. For instance, both the traditional mazurka and Chopin's compositions feature significant repetition. This can mean repetition of a single measure or small group of measures, repetition of a theme, or repetition of an entire section. This repetition makes sense in the context of the traditional dance, where certain sections are repeated. Even though Chopin did not compose his mazurkas to be danced to, it is clear that he kept the original form in mind. Furthermore, many of the rhythmic patterns of the traditional mazurka also appear in Chopin's compositions, conveying the idea of a dance but as a more 'self-contained, stylised dance piece'.
