Choosing the RIGHT starter bow “HOW TO”- Part 2
Well, thanks for tuning in to part two
of the ultimate guide to picking out your first bow.
What we're gonna look at today
is gonna be some bows from Bayer Archery.
They're gonna be a little more readily available online
than the mission bows we looked at last week.
That all's coming up next on Trinity Wild.
Hey everybody, thanks for joining us today.
What we wanna go through today is some bows
that are a little more readily available online.
The first one we wanna go through
is one that's gonna be great for a kid.
So, and this one is small enough and light enough
that it's gonna be great for any kid
from the ages of five or six
all the way up to probably 10 or 11.
At 10 or 11, this is gonna be a little bit small for them.
This is called the Bayer Royale.
It is 27 inches axle to axle.
One of the reasons I like it for the smaller kids
is because it's so light.
Some other smaller bows that are designed for juniors
are a little bit heavy.
This one is super light
and gonna be easy for them to handle.
The price on this one's gonna range all over the place.
We usually do them for 299.
I've seen them as little as 249 online.
Right now, they're kinda hard to find
because right now, a lot of people are getting them.
They come in a wide array of colors.
This is like a real tree,
but you can get all kinda really cool colors for them
if they're not interested in hunting.
But again, this is gonna be a great bow if they're serious.
Now again, if they're just wanting to sling some arrows
and they're not interested in hunting,
that Matthew's Genesis we talked about last time
is gonna be great.
If your little one is looking down the road
and wanting to hunt with a bow,
this is gonna be a great way to start
because they can start as low as 10 pounds,
work their way up to get to as much as 50 pounds
at a 27-inch draw.
Most of your big box stores are gonna be bear dealers.
So if there's any issues with the cam,
if you've broken a limb or something like that,
they're gonna be able to help you out with that.
But this one's readily available online.
A lot of times you can find them online cheaper
than you can get them in the store.
But again, the Bear Royale, great way to get started.
So the next bow we wanna look at,
again, super adjustable.
It is the Bear Legit.
Now it's gonna be more for the next level.
So you can go from the Royale and then the Legit.
So I had a little girl come in the other day
and I put her in when she was 12 years old.
The adjustability on that Bear Legit is amazing too.
Now you may look at this and go,
wait a minute, doesn't match the picture.
I didn't bring a Bear Legit.
I brought four bows to show you
and forgot to bring one of the Legits.
But it looks kind of like this.
So the Legit is gonna be 30 inches axle to axle.
It's gonna go draw, I have to think just a second.
The draw length on that one is gonna be from 14 to 30 inches
so it's gonna be one that's going to adjust
even to a longer person.
So anybody from, I'm gonna say 11 or 12
all the way up to when you're gonna be shooting
to a 30 inch draw and 70 pounds.
So why would I go with a bow with a Royale over the Legit?
If my guy or girl is 10 and below,
again, the weight of the bow does make a difference.
So once they get in the 11, 12, 13 year old range,
they could probably still shoot the Royale and be just fine.
But with the Legit, you've got a little more weight to it.
That's why you're gonna wanna wait
till they're in the 12 or so range
to get them a bow that's gonna go
all the way up to 70 pounds.
Now, you do sacrifice a little bit of precision
when you're looking at a bow that goes
that the limb bolts are gonna allow you
to move them in and out to the point
where you can go from 70 pounds
all the way back down to 10.
But that's okay.
We're looking at getting someone started
in bow hunting, in archery.
So it doesn't have to be super precise.
It doesn't have to be the best bow out there.
We just wanna get them out there shooting arrows
and get them a good start and a good foundation.
So again, the Bear Legit is a great bow
to go from the Royale and then the Legit.
Very adjustable, draw length and draw weight,
but gonna be a little bit heavier,
but that's gonna give it the ability
to go all the way to a 70 pound bow.
So next up, we have the Bear Adapt.
Now, this is gonna be a bow that they did
in collaboration with The Hunting Public.
If you haven't watched The Hunting Public on YouTube,
you're really missing out.
They do a great job.
Go check them out.
You're gonna really enjoy.
You're gonna learn a lot
and you're gonna enjoy their content.
They do a great job.
But the Bear Adapt, this is gonna be one
that the precision is gonna be there.
You don't have the draw weight adjustability.
So you're gonna be somewhere in about a 15 pound draw weight.
So on the heavier end from 70, it'll go down to 55.
If you get a 60 pound bow, it'll go down to 45.
But that also means you've got a little more precision
in those limb pockets.
So this is actually gonna be
a little bit better shooting bow.
I really like this bow.
It's super smooth, super quiet.
They did a real good job on the collaboration here.
Now, the draw length on this one would go from 24 to 31.
There's one package that they offer
that's a pro shop bow only,
but other ones are gonna be
that you can get readily online.
So again, those are three bows
that are easy to find online.
The Royale, the Legit, and the Adapt.
So you've got a couple that are good beginner bows.
This is gonna be, again, same price range,
but gonna be a little more precise,
but you don't have the adjustability
as far as the weight goes.
And again, what we wanted to talk about today
is something that's a lot more readily available,
like the Royale, like the Legit, like the Adapt.
So let's do one more.
All right, last bow I wanna go through
is the Bear Legend XR.
Now, Legend XR is gonna be a pro shop bow only.
It's gonna be a little bit bigger,
but it's gonna give you the ability
to go to a 31 inch draw.
My draw is six foot two and some change is 29 and a half.
So this bow's gonna be able to fit you,
but it's also gonna be able to adjust
draw weight wise a lot more.
The draw weight is gonna be from 70 pounds.
It'll go, I believe, all the way down to 15 pounds.
15, just under 20 pounds.
Highly recommend this bow.
Great shooting bow.
Out of all of them I've shown you
and out of all the ready to hunt package bows
I've shot in the Bear line,
I like shooting this one as much as I do any of them.
The super adjustability in those limb pockets,
the precision may not be there,
but I do really enjoy shooting that bow.
Super quiet, very smooth,
but out of the Bear line, the ready to hunt package,
I believe I like this one the best.
So that's the Bear Legend XR.
So you're also gonna need a release.
The technical term is a release aid.
So for the little guys, for the Royale or the Legit,
if your child is 12 or below,
you may wanna look at getting the True Ball Shooter.
Reason I like this release is how adjustable it is.
Now it has a little rope,
so you can make that release longer or shorter.
What I don't want is I don't want that release
in their hand and them having to reach out there
and try to touch that trigger.
I want that trigger somewhere in the middle
where they feel comfortable.
I don't want it way back here either.
So as they grow, you can extend that out.
So that's a really good release for the Royale
or even Legit for a junior.
And for the adult, the True Ball Stinger
is the one I would go with.
And again, they're very affordable.
That's the other thing.
You're just getting started.
Guys, you can spend anywhere from 40, 50 bucks
up to 400 bucks on a release.
Don't do that.
Just get one that gets you started.
Now the Stinger does not have the adjustability.
There are plenty other releases out there you can find.
I'm a big fan of the B3 line.
Now they're gonna be a little more expensive.
They're gonna be in the 70, 80, 90 dollar range.
Again, this is just a good basic release
if you're looking one.
There's a lot of great companies out there.
Scott, B3, True Fire.
I'm a big fan of the True Ball
and the B3 archery products.
Just a real simple release you can get
for not too expensive.
Last and certainly not least,
you're gonna need some arrows.
So you need some bullets for that bow, right?
So with arrows, we usually,
with somebody that's just starting out,
we usually go with the Easton 6.5 Carbon,
which is a really good arrow.
And the reason I like it too,
it's not too expensive.
And it's also very readily available.
Pretty much any shop you go to
is gonna have this Easton 6.5.
What you're gonna wanna do
is look and see,
this is based on what's called the spine of the arrow.
The spine is how much flex the arrow has.
I wanna match that flex
with the draw length and draw weight of the bow.
Most kids, we're gonna put them in a 500 or 600 spine
as they get on up in age
and they get a little bit stronger
and the weight goes up
and their draw length goes up.
We're gonna want a stiffer arrow.
So a pro shop can help you with that.
You can look online.
There's every arrow company,
Easton, Gold Tip, Carbon Express,
every one of them has a chart on their website
that will show you exactly what arrow to get
based on the draw length and draw weight.
So typically you go to a pro shop,
you've got even some of your big box stores,
they're gonna be able to help you get the right arrow
because you wanna make sure
that you get the arrow to fit your bow.
If it's too long,
with the juniors,
I usually cut their arrows maybe an inch or so long
to give them a little room to grow.
Too long is okay.
Too short, not okay.
So don't just grab any old arrow
and stick it in that bow and let it fly.
It might not go well.
So get someone to help you with that.
So that wraps up part two
of our ultimate guide to picking out your first bow.
Did that help?
If it did, give us a like.
If you have a question,
best thing to do,
ask me down in the comments.
I'll be glad to answer it.
Again, I'm still a small channel
so I pretty much answer any question you'll ask.
And a lot of times you might ask a question,
gives me an idea for the next video.
I don't mind making a video
so if somebody asks me a good question,
I'll make a video just for you
because I'm having a ball doing this.
Maybe you know a lot about bows.
Maybe you've been hunting for a while
but your friend is looking for some help
in picking out a bow for himself or his child.
Hey, share this with them.
Maybe it'll help them.
So we'll see you next time.
So right now,
turn off that phone,
shut down on the computer.
Let's get outside and get wild.
Take care.
We'll see you next time.
God bless.
