In this feature and interview by The Arts Page, hyperrealist contemporary sculptor Marc Sijan explains his art, his work and his philosophy.

Inspired by Michelangelo’s execution of the human body and a prior student of anatomy and biology, Marc Sijan’s eerily life-like sculptures turn the ordinary into inexplicable works of art.

Rather than depicting the ideal form, Sijan’s force comes from his tribute to the unpretentious beauty of the people often overlooked in society: the blue collared workers, the cleaning staff, the overweight.
Communicating a deep sense of humanism, Sijan’s work strays away from the traditional rules of hyperrealism in its exclusion of narrative elements, human emotion and political value.
Based on live models, Sijan’s creations are tangible stories from the gamut of humanity.
