Thingvellir National Park Iceland
Let’s visit a place where you can hike between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Þingvellir National Park or also called as Thingvellir National Park in Iceland is the dramatic landscapes where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates visibly part ways.
Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated not only for its scenic beauty but as the meeting place of the Alþingi, the world’s oldest existing parliament, founded in 930 AD.
This place, whose name means 'fields of parliament,' hosted annual gatherings where Iceland’s early settlers made laws and settled disputes under the open sky.
There is beautiful hike to Öxarárfoss waterfall from the parking area in Þingvellir National Park and it’s a relatively short and accessible hike of 0.6 kms and takes 15 to 20 minutes.
