What advice would you give for future bloggers or people that want to create their own media platform?
What do you say for all of us small blogs?
Why are these events important? Because we all know that no one celebrates our culture like we celebrate our culture. So why is this important to happen?
There's so much happening right now and we all think that we can't participate because of the lack of resources when we are our greatest asset.
And so me creating this event and bringing all of us together is hopefully something that will inspire somebody to go back and build something of their own.
It doesn't have to be this grand, it could be bigger, it could be smaller, but at least you're doing something to bring our people together to talk about the things that matter to our culture.
So can you speak to me about supporting our culture and supporting each other and basically not feeling that if I help you I'm losing from myself.
So yesterday I was at the Black Enterprise Media Moguls Conference in North Carolina and me and Fred from Media Takeout were talking about how we have a supportive relationship.
I feel like in urban media there's this crab in a barrel mentality that comes from the house nigga syndrome back in slave days.
Where only one of us can have the validation from the boss or the master to have some type of control over our space.
But what I told people is that I don't believe in anything but God. So what God prepared for me, he prepared for me.
What he prepared for you, he prepared for you. I don't need to take yours, you don't need to take mine.
And instead of trying to preserve everything on our plate out of fear of losing it to somebody else, we should be more collaborative so that way we can multiply the blessings that we each individually have.
Y'all didn't think I was that smart. I know, I know.
I appreciate that.
It's all good.
Hi.
Hello.
What's going on?
I love The Root by the way.
Thank you.
First of all, how are you my love?
I'm stressed out.
It's okay, you don't look stressed out. You look like you're looking real good.
I'm stressed out.
Okay.
So first of all, I've been listening to you.
I got a surprise coming for y'all. I can't even tell you.
You know, when there's somebody that gossips for a living, which by the way, I don't really gossip for a living because I just listen to gossip music, watch CNN and Golden Girls.
Come on now.
But I hate when people tell me things or I know things and I can't tell nobody. But I heart. We talking.
Okay, we talking now. Okay, are we listening?
So first of all, I want to know, listening to you, you have so much wisdom, but I want to know how does it feel to be popping it out here in these streets?
You know what? I don't really think I'm popping it.
Oh, you are popping, popping, popping, popping.
No, I don't think that I'm popping it. Let me tell you what matters to me.
Somebody asked me the other day, this person, she's the head of a global brand.
She said, what do you think people, what do you think your reputation is?
I said, I don't give a **** about my reputation.
As long as I have you talking, good or bad, I'm doing my job.
And my reputation is not something that I can control.
What I can do is wake up every day and be the best version of myself and some days I'm going to be great and some days I'm not.
I want to know, because I love you on Wild N Out. I love, I love, I love that whole show.
What was that experience like for you and what made you actually say, yes, this is for me?
My first joke on Wild N Out was asking Nick Cannon to suck his dick.
Now listen, listen, listen. No, no, that one, no, that was, that one, I said a whole bunch of stuff.
But that was, that was my first joke that actually did make the show.
I scared the ---- out of MTV.
But I said, I'm going to go out here on Wild N Out.
I don't rap, I don't sing, I can't dance, and I'm not a comic.
But I talk ---- and I can be shocking.
And I did that. But Nick has been an amazing support.
He's, he's just an aspiring person and an inspiring person.
