Once upon a time, on a quiet little farm nestled between rolling green hills,
lived a hen and a duck. Though they were very different in nearly every way, they shared a small,
cozy coop near a sparkling pond, and they had been the best of friends since they were small.
The hen was neat and careful. She liked her routines waking up with the sun,
scratching the ground in tidy rows, and laying her eggs in the same soft corner of the coop.
She always kept her feathers clean, and her straw bed just the way she liked it.
The duck, on the other wing, was the opposite. He was messy and full of energy. He loved to
splash in puddles, chase buzzing insects, and paddle around the pond. He never minded mud
on his webbed feet or feathers sticking up all over. Despite their differences, the hen and the
duck were always together. They would eat their meals side by side, watch the clouds from the
hilltop, and share stories late into the evening. One warm and sunny morning, the duck burst into
the coop, flapping his wings and dripping water everywhere. Let's go on an adventure,
he quacked excitedly. Let's follow the stream and see where it leads. Maybe we'll find a secret
place no one's ever seen, the hen blinked. Follow the stream? That sounds dangerous.
We don't know what's out there, the duck grinned. Exactly, that's why it's exciting.
Think of the flowers we'll find, the bugs we'll taste, and the songs we can sing.
The hen sighed and looked out the window. The sky was clear, the wind was soft,
and though she was nervous, she also felt something else curiosity. All right,
she said softly, but we'll stay close to the stream and come back before sunset.
The duck gave a joyful flap, deal, so off they went. The duck splashing ahead,
and the hen clucking along the grassy edge. The stream led them through blooming meadows
and into quiet woods lit by streaks of sunlight. They met a mole who told them riddles, found
pebbles shaped like hearts and stars, and even shared a snack with a family of squirrels.
For a while, the hen forgot her worries. She laughed, pecked at wild seeds, and even dipped
her toes in the cool stream. But as the afternoon faded, the sky began to change.
Clouds gathered quickly, thunder rumbled far away. Then plop, a fat raindrop fell on the hen's head.
But the stream, which had been gentle, was now rushing faster. The path was muddy,
and the trees all looked the same. The hen looked around, feathers damp.
Oh no, we're lost. I knew this was a bad idea. The duck looked around too, eyes wide. Wait,
I think I know what to do. The stream flows past our coop, remember? If we follow it the other way,
it should lead us back. The hen paused. She had to admithe was right. So, side by side,
they followed the stream again, this time with slower steps. The rain poured down,
but the duck shielded the hen with his wings. The hen helped him find firm ground when the
drought got deep. And before long, through the mist and drizzle, they saw it. Their coop,
warm and glowing in the evening light. They hurried inside, shook off the water,
and curled up on their straw beds, tired but smiling. The duck quacked softly.
You were brave today, the hen smiled. And you were clever. I'm glad we went.
From that day on, the hen still loved her neat nest and calm mornings, and the duck still played
in the mud and sang silly songs. But they went on many more adventures together, always with care,
and always side by side. Because even when you're different, friendship means walking
through the world to gather rain or shine.
