In German there are masculine nouns that come with the article der.
Then there are feminine nouns with the feminine article die
and neutral nouns with the article das.
And now I'll show you a few simple rules.
With these rules we can easily determine whether we should use der, die or das.
We start with masculine nouns.
We use the masculine article der for male people.
For example the student, the policeman, the boss, the brother, the neighbor, the colleague.
We also use the masculine article for alcohol.
The rum, the liqueur, the champagne, the whiskey, the champagne, the vodka.
But beware, the beer, that's an exception.
It can't be done without exceptions.
We also use the masculine article for car brands.
The Mercedes, the BMW, the Audi, the Porsche, the VW, the Tesla.
By the way, we practice this topic with the articles at B1 level.
So if you want to get a lot of exercises, feel free to sign up for my B1 course.
There are also German courses for other language levels.
Just look at the description below.
The times of day are also masculine.
The morning, the morning, the noon, the afternoon, the evening, but the night.
The night dances out of order.
To dance out of order means to be different.
Weekdays are also masculine.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
The same applies to all months.
They are also masculine.
January, February, March, April, May, June and so on.
The seasons are also masculine.
Summer, autumn, winter, spring, but the spring.
All directions of the sky are also masculine.
The north, the south, the east, the west.
It is the same with compound nouns.
For example, the northwest or the southeast.
When it comes to weather events, we also use the masculine article very often.
For example, the hail, the shower, the wind, the storm, the fog, the frost.
But there are a few more exceptions here.
For example, the bad weather, the cloud, the sun.
There are also typical masculine suffixes.
Like ear, the professor, the moderator.
Ismus, optimism, selfishness.
Ling, the nephew, the twin.
Feel free to think about your own examples with masculine nouns
and write them in the comments below this video.
I am always looking forward to your examples and it is very important to practice right away.
And now we come to feminine nouns.
We use the feminine article for female people.
The student, the policewoman, the boss, the sister, the neighbor, the colleague.
But the girl.
All numbers are feminine.
The one, the two, the eleven, the twenty, the hundred, the million.
Did you know that?
All motorcycle brands are feminine.
The Harley Davidson, the Ducati, the Kawasaki, the Yamaha, the Suzuki.
There are also certain feminine suffixes.
Like around, the opinion, the movement.
Health, health, truth.
Kindness, friendliness, honesty.
Emotion, emotion, discussion.
Craft, the team, the landscape.
Egg, the butcher, the police.
Act, the university, the quality.
Do you already have an example with feminine nouns?
Then feel free to write it in the comments.
We continue with neutral nouns.
These are, for example, all substantive infinitives.
So if we use the infinitive as a noun.
For example, reading, writing, going, drinking, sleeping, working.
Nouns are also neutral.
There are certain suffixes for this.
Dog, for example, the puppy.
The puppy is a small dog.
The tree, the tree is a small tree.
The booklet, a small book.
Or the little house, a small house.
You can of course also say the little house.
With some words you can use both suffixes, but not with all.
The diminutive form always has the neutral article that.
And the vowels a, o, u and the diphthong au get a sound.
All languages are neutral.
German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic.
All metals are also neutral.
For example, gold, silver, iron, nickel, aluminum.
All color names are also neutral.
Orange, gray, brown, green, white.
These nouns are therefore always neutral.
Can you also form a sentence with one of these nouns?
Maybe you can even combine a couple in one sentence.
That would be really great.
I'm looking forward to reading your comment.
Articles in German can sometimes be really tricky.
That's completely normal.
Knifflig means difficult, complicated.
But don't worry, there are clear patterns and tendencies
that can help you with this.
As we have seen today, many word groups, for example,
are always masculine, feminine or neutral.
And you should remember exactly these.
If you internalize these rules,
you will no longer make any mistakes with these words.
And with a little practice you will notice
that the more difficult cases also become easier.
Stay tuned, you can do it!
And definitely download the free PDF to the video.
There you will also find all examples and you can practice in peace.
