Unboxing an Antique Edwardian Cottagecore Outfit
Huge thanks to Blair for sending me this absolutely stunning summer suit from the 1910s! This light blue linen beauty, dating to around 1917, is cottagecore perfection. From the delicate soutache trim to the intricate French knots, every detail is to die for.
This elegant yet simple skirt and jacket ensemble is a dreamy example of late Edwardian-to-1910s fashion. It may have even been remade from an earlier Edwardian outfit—a common practice at the time. The embellishments were hand-sewn, while the rest of the suit was done with a chain stitch sewing machine, which is so different from the lockstitch machines we’re used to today.
The best part? It’s surprisingly easy to sew—a straightforward skirt and unfitted jacket design that’s just as wearable in the 2020s as it was in the 1910s. The late 1910s may have been marked by WWI and the Spanish Flu, but at least the fashion was.
