Trump's move specifically named Musk and made suggestions equivalent to limiting the future development of Musk's companies in the US. However, as expected, Musk's statements caused a huge shock to the entire US space community in general, as well as to partners, because of the huge influence of Dragon. Immediately, NASA and Pentagon officials rushed to reach out to SpaceX and Elon Musk’s competitors in the space industry to ask about the progress of their space vehicles. Although Musk has since said he will not cancel Dragon, these agencies are also very concerned about the suggestion that Musk’s.
One NASA official said that watching the feud between Trump and Musk play out on social media Thursday at first was “entertaining.” But once Musk called for decommissioning Dragon, “it turned really terrifying.”

NASA is a regular customer of SpaceX for its cargo and crew shuttle missions to and from the ISS, and the Pentagon relies heavily on SpaceX to launch satellites for its most sensitive missions. Their concern is normal and has prompted them to quickly look for alternatives to these critical missions.
According to The Washington Post, after the exchange, NASA and the Pentagon contacted several commercial companies, including Rocket Lab, Stoke Space, and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin to ask about the readiness of their launch systems. Sierra Space leaders also confirmed that NASA contacted them to confirm their work on Dream Chaser - a ship capable of carrying both cargo and people to the ISS and returning on the runway intact. This shows the determination of NASA and the Pentagon to avoid relying on a single vehicle as before.
