Heading to Oktoberfest in Munich and wondering how to begin planning your trip?
Unsure of where to find the perfect mix of tradition, culture and, of course, the best
drinks? Well, don't worry, because we've got you covered. Today we're showing you 11 epic
beer tents for this year's epic festival. And trust us, you don't want to miss these.
This is where Bavarian culture shines. Hitting up the tents at Munich Oktoberfest is a must.
In no particular order, here we go.
Number 1. Schottenhammeltent
The heart of Oktoberfest lies in Schottenhammeltent, where the festivities kick off at the
stroke of 12 noon. The mayor of Munich strikes the very first keg of Oktoberfest. As his mallet
strikes and he yells, it's tapped! Or, Ozapft ist! 12 cannons ring out across the grounds,
signaling the start of Oktoberfest. The opening ceremony is very special to attend.
It's the oldest running tent, going all the way back to 1867. Back in its early days,
it could only host around 50 farmers behind the King's Royal Box, and that too was a stretch.
Now, it hosts up to 10,000 people. Along with its culinary specialties, its giant turkey leg
and spot-and-brow beer seem to be an all-time favorite, drawing in many locals and tourists.
So, if you want to be at the heart of it all, you just have to be here.
Number 2. Hockerschore Tent
Exceptional beer, fantastic music, and oh, the breathtaking painted ceilings.
Hockerschore has it all. If the tent's energy doesn't engulf you in a trance,
the ceiling sure will. The ceiling depicts old-world Munich under a dreamy blue sky,
with puffy white clouds. It's stunning. The beauty of it earned it the name
The Heaven of Bavaria, and if people aren't going there for a beer,
they're going to catch a glimpse of the ceiling. The tent isn't just about visuals. It's got a
live rock and roll band which cranks up the fun to new heights, keeping the energy up during dinner.
Oh, and let's not forget the revolving stage with its unique display of Munich
Coopers in their signature red jackets, adding to the charm. So, if you love tradition,
art, and a lively vibe, you need to be here.
Number 3. Kaffers Weissenschanke
Do you consider yourself more of a night owl, someone who loves to party when the moon shines
bright? Well, guess what? While other tents close around 11 p.m., there is one tent that stays open
for its guests for another two hours. Local bands and a relaxed atmosphere with the perfect
drink in hand and your friends close by. The Kaffers Weissenschanke offers all that. It's
one of the most cozy upscale tents, seating a total of around 3,000 guests. And you might not
find the typical tent atmosphere, rather more of a restaurant feel, but it does have a beer
garden courtyard that gives you the perfect, exclusive feel. So, if you're looking to
experience the fun of Oktoberfest while engulfed in comfort, you've found your place.
Number 4. Augustiner Tent
Augustiner Tent gives you a taste of the famous Augustiner beer, sourced from Munich's oldest
brewery. This tent takes its beer serving very seriously. It's one of the only two tents that,
to date, continue to serve beer from actual wooden kegs, an authenticity that has been lost
among many others. The inside has a dark vintage vibe, setting guests right into the mood. It
almost feels like you're visiting before the times of electricity. So, if you're looking for
authenticity and a great vibe, make sure to check this place out.
Number 5. Ochsenbroderie, the Oxen Tent
The Oxen Tent is known to start off with a bang. It has a giant rotating ox statue cooking away
above the entrance, setting the tone right from the beginning. If you're in search of mouthwatering
food, you're in luck because they have what's considered the best meal in Oktoberfest,
their 20-euro prime rib. Plus, you can also get a view of the ox that's getting roasted in the
kitchen. How so? Well, the names of each oxen cooked daily are displayed proudly, so you'll
know exactly who you're feasting on. And don't worry if the crowds are too big to get in,
the Oxen Tent will make sure you still get a taste. They have a secret side door on the
north side of the tent from where you can get an ox sandwich for takeaway, without getting a seat.
Number 6. Marquis Eudeweizen
Look, time travel may not yet be ready, but you can definitely fly back to the past with the
Marquis Eudeweizen tent. The Marquis tradition gives you the perfect throwback of old-school
Oktoberfest. It's like a blast to the past. It's got hand-powered vintage rides and traditional
entertainment. And we mean traditional. You'll find whippersnappers on top of tables,
turning their whipping sounds into music. And that's not all. They max out the charm with
some captivating and fun traditional folk dance groups that perform throughout the day,
sparking joy and thrill among the guests.
Number 7. Richard's Café Kaiserschmarrn
Café Kaiserschmarrn. It's as if you're stepping into a sugary wonderland. This playful tent
definitely needs to be on your list. The crowd may be a little older than the other tents, but
that doesn't mean the energy is any less. And one of the biggest charms is its cake-cutting ceremony,
where a seven-layer Prince Regent cake is sliced and given out to each tent guest,
which is an homage to Oktoberfest's royal roots. This tent is a sweet treat for both your taste
buds and festive spirit. Number 8. Marstall Tent
If you want the perfect blend of history that pays homage to Munich's years-old traditions,
then look no further than the Marstall Tent, aka the horse stables. Munich has had a rich
history of horse racing, from the Scarlet Horse Race, to the riding school and stables at the
Royal Residence, and then the Royal Wedding, which conducted a horse race. And it seems
the Marstall Tent intends to keep the tradition alive. You'll find folks in elegant Oktoberfest
wardrobes eyeing the decor to find the hidden horse-inspired details. It's like a treasure
hunt while you sit back and enjoy drinks with your friends. Talking about decor, the tent has
a marvelous central horse carousel, where you'll find a band playing some fun tunes,
making the night even cooler. Number 9. Koffer's Oktoberfest Tavern
Now, getting to one of the most exclusive tents in the Oktoberfest, the Koffer's Tavern. The
old-weathered tavern is a cozy, two-floored structure with rustic booths and a live band
keeping the energy high in the center of each floor. Being the cozy tavern it is, it doesn't
have much indoor seating space, which is why it doesn't host many guests. So they keep it
as exclusive as they can. We mean, you need to either know someone or have the proper local
surname to get in, unless you arrive super early. But coming in super early is totally worth it,
because it may be small in size, but they have a full-on rock and roll show with thrilling live
music. And oh, did we mention the humongous gourmet platters they serve? Oh, a must-have!
Number 10. Schützenfessel Now, every tent has its own charm, that's for
sure. But if you want a truly electrifying experience, the Schützentent is a must-visit.
It gives its guests the authentic Bavarian charm. It's located near the famous Lady Bavaria statue
since 1961, and its specialty lies in serving Lohenbrau beer, the brew behind the festival's
famous after-parties. But before we get into its nitty-gritty, we'll let you in on a secret.
You can enjoy the VIP balcony until 5.30 p.m. without any reservations. And if you can't get
inside, fret not, because one of the most famous spots is the outside garden. Oh, and don't forget
to swing by the 60-foot-tall Lady Bavaria statue. Maybe even climb it to get the perfect view of all
the festivities. The tent also has some pretty amazing food options, with the best pork options,
and even some vegetarian options, because everyone should have a blast.
Number 11. Küffler's Wine Tent Oh, and you wine lovers have nothing
to worry about, because Küffler's Wine Tent makes sure your thirst is perfectly quenched.
Oktoberfest is widely known as a beer festival, but there is much more to enjoy and celebrate.
Since the very beginning, in 1810, folks found special wine tents under various names. Along with
a wide variety of wines to select from, Küffler's tent serves some of the best food platters as well.
And that's not all. If you're looking for an intimate atmosphere with a classy vibe,
well look no further. Its wooden structure gives everyone the feel of a great hall of a royal
hunting lodge. And of course, a festival isn't a festival without music. The Küffler's Wine Tent
is equally famous for its excellent live band in the evenings. So while you're sipping on your
favorite wine and chatting away, the melodies in the back make the perfect ambience. No doubt,
you'll be dancing on top of your seats with the rest as the night passes.
So which tent will make it to your list? Thanks for watching, and for more content, follow along.
