Welcome to 10 minutes of German, your quick language training for in-between.
Today it's about everyday language in the office.
I'm Laura and I want to look at 10 important words and expressions with you
that you constantly need in everyday work.
So in e-mails, meetings or in conversations with colleagues.
And the best thing is, you speak everything directly with, loud, clear, active.
Are you ready? Let's go!
To get in touch
To get in touch means to make contact.
So in person, by e-mail, on the phone or in writing.
You show that you're reacting to something or that you're getting in touch.
For example, I'll get in touch later with the information.
That means I'll contact you and give you the information.
Now you.
I'll get in touch later.
Do you get in touch with the customer?
To forward
To forward.
If you forward something, you send information that you received,
for example an e-mail or a file, to another person.
I'll forward the e-mail to my colleagues.
That means I'll forward the e-mail that I received to my colleagues.
Now you.
I'll forward the e-mail.
Can you forward the e-mail to me?
To take care
If you take care of something, you take responsibility
and make sure that a task is completed or that something works.
For example, I'll take care of the presentation.
That means I'll take over the organization or the preparation.
Now you.
Do you take care of the presentation?
Yes, I'll take care of it.
To finish
To finish means to finish a task or to complete a task.
It's a very typical verb in everyday life.
I'll finish it today.
That means I'll finish it today.
Now you.
I'll finish it later.
Until when do we have to finish it?
To fail
To fail describes situations in which something, for example an appointment or a meeting,
does not take place as planned.
The meeting is cancelled today.
That means it was cancelled.
It's not taking place.
Now you.
The appointment is cancelled today.
Why is the appointment cancelled today?
To postpone
To postpone means to postpone something to a later date.
For example an appointment, a meeting or a task.
Can we postpone the meeting to tomorrow?
That means not today, but tomorrow.
Now you.
We postpone the meeting to tomorrow.
Can we postpone the appointment to Wednesday?
To vote
If you vote or vote something,
then together in the team you decide who does what
or how to continue working.
Let's briefly vote on how we proceed.
That means we discuss what the next step is.
Now you.
Let's briefly vote on who takes which tasks.
When can we vote?
Give feedback
A feedback is an answer or a feedback,
written or verbal.
You react to a question, a suggestion or a task.
Please give me feedback until tomorrow.
That means answer me until tomorrow with your assessment or your decision.
Now you.
Please give me feedback as soon as possible.
Until when can we expect feedback?
To be reachable
If you are reachable, you can be contacted,
by phone, by e-mail or other means of communication.
I am reachable until 6 p.m. today.
That means you can reach me until then today.
Now you.
I am reachable only until 2 p.m. today.
When are you best reachable?
And now we practice a short dialogue together.
You take on a role and speak actively.
I start the dialogue and you answer with the appropriate sentences.
Speak your sentences out loud and answer me.
Hello, do you have a moment?
I would like to vote with you for the task distribution for next week.
Now you.
Great, I will take care of the presentation for the team meeting.
Can you take care of the numbers from the last quarter?
Perfect, I will send you the e-mail with the details.
Can you give me feedback until tomorrow?
Thank you.
If you have any questions, just contact me.
I am reachable until 5 p.m.
Great, I will pass on the information to my colleagues.
So, these were our ten important words and phrases from the office life.
