hello everyone this is will wear with
Praeger you today we are joined by
Douglas Murray who is the author of the
strange death of Europe how are you
doing today very good thank you and you
are filming a video today yes that's
right filming a video for Prager you
yeah could you give us a little rundown
about what that's about it's um it's a
it's busy about my most recent book the
strange death of Europe immigration
identity and Islam and about the massive
events that are going on across the
continent that I'm from mm-hmm and so
how do you see America parallel to
what's going on in Europe right now one
thing most interesting is I keep on
getting American readers writing to me
saying this is about us as well isn't it
and you know it is it's it's Europe is
going through a massive crisis at the
moment but the debates we are sort of
having to live through are very similar
to the ones that you're having to to go
through here a lot of questions that we
all need to be thinking about and
addressing and we just in my view a
further down the road in Europe on some
of these questions and you are here how
do you go about stopping this mass
immigration well it's not easy the first
thing is though is that you have to make
a clear distinction between things that
are legal and things that are illegal
there is a massive attempt to raise that
matter as if there's a border line there
that should be blurred and you know the
difference between what is legal and
what is illegal is about the biggest
difference you can get in you know
nation's life and so that's that's just
one thing but there's a whole set of
practical suggestions I given the book
of how to slow it down at the very least
government by the way always say things
like you know there's nothing we can do
it's what I described is the fatalistic
final stage they say you know this is
globalization there's nothing you can do
people come and I think this is a
terrible terrible mistake as well as
being untrue and don't forget by the way
these are the same government's very
often that that claim that they can they
can arrange what the temperature is
gonna be in the year 2100 okay so don't
believe people when they say that yeah
well there's always something that you
can do
immigration more border security do you
believe in a wall do you think that
could be something that could work
look if it's necessary then then yes if
there's no other way then yes people by
the way there's this constant theme at
the moment particularly the left does
this thing of saying the anti borders
movement on the Left says you know they
were saying bike build build bridges not
walls is the dumbest line I've heard
against some really stiff competition in
recent years and and that that line yes
it sorry the bridges or walls I invite
those people to come to London where
after three massive terrorist attacks
last year all of our bridges are now
covered in walls so it's not an
either/or thing yeah well they want open
borders but then they also want a
welfare state as well yeah and somebody
made the point recently that we've got
bollards around every major public
building these days in Britain France
and elsewhere in Europe as I think Mark
Steyn said well how about just making a
really big set of bollards ie a border
around the outside instead of just
keeping on ball adding in everything
inside the country you know there's an
idea yeah speaking of walls though and
uh you know our current administration
in America they want to build a wall do
people in Europe take so kindly to
administration we have here gosh I don't
think your current president is a
absolute favorite of European publics
well all sorts of reasons but you know I
by the way I mean it's not entirely new
I mean although I think you know the
European public voted Obama for life
pretty much his predecessor was was I
think at least equally hated I remember
the protests against George W Bush when
he came to London I think it's it's it's
a real shame this because there are all
sorts of criticisms you can make of
President rumbas or of any
administration but to be in the
situation that for instance we're now in
in Britain where you know you know the
state visit has been postponed the state
visit of Donald Trump to London has been
postponed because of pressure from the
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and a very
vocal
lobbie of leftists who say you know he's
not welcome in our country with his
views you know we had the Chinese
leadership a couple of years ago and by
the way President Trump has made visits
to France to Germany to Poland Belgium
perfectly you know Peverley unmolested
by a rampaging mob of a public so I have
any weight him very embarrassed that
we've got this stage where a state visit
by the President of our closest the most
important ally the United States of
America feels that he shouldn't come to
London why is it that the UK is much
more progressive and leftist than these
other European countries well I'm not
sure it is that I mean everyone's sort
of equally you know on that continuum I
think is all sorts of things we we're
sort of vulnerable to that virtue
signaling class these days my own view
maybe this sounds kind of francophone ik
but the French are very cynical about
these sorts of things you know I mean
they might not like Donald Trump all
that much but you know they want to do
business in Britain we're sort of we're
stuck in this like we'd like to do
business we'd like business as normal
but these really loud harridans of the
sort of you know virtue signalling left
who seem to have as a full-time job in
the desire to be on the streets every
day of the week protesting against
anything that they don't like where they
get their income well Trump is still
getting business done regardless that's
going on I'd like to thank you for
joining me today speaking Mandarin I
look forward to his Prager you video
coming out very soon thank you everyone
this is will win Douglas Murray thank
you
