SpaceX revealed Massive Changes on Next-Gen Starship Booster!
Continuous improvement—that’s the hallmark of Starship’s development.
This year alone, we’ve witnessed a major leap as the Ship has transitioned to Version 2, with early signs of Version 3 already emerging. But what about the booster?
It appears we’re on the cusp of another significant milestone. SpaceX has recently made several key revelations pointing toward the arrival of the booster’s second version.
So, when will this new version debut? And what upgrades can we expect?
Let’s dive into all the details in today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

Once again, it’s clear that SpaceX has made major strides in advancing the Starship system this year. The introduction of Ship Version 2 brought a host of upgrades, signaling a shift toward more refined and capable hardware. However, despite two flights with this upgraded version, the results have not yet fully met expectations. This has led to growing anticipation around the next step—Ship Version 3—which is expected to include vital systems such as in-orbit refueling, potentially even being tested later this year.
But what about the booster?

Unlike Ship, the Super Heavy booster remains in its original configuration, Version 1. SpaceX is even preparing to reuse one of these first-generation boosters, B14, on Flight 9. While it’s impressive that V1 boosters are reaching reusability, the transition to a more advanced version is clearly behind the Ship timeline. To keep up with overall system evolution, Booster Version 2—also referred to as Block 2—needs to roll out soon.
Fortunately, there are now signs that this new version is on the horizon.
Recently, an intriguing image surfaced showing a new platform located at the Sanchez Site. Its shape and build suggest it’s meant to support boosters, but curiously, the current V1 boosters don’t seem to fit it. This strongly indicates that it’s a dedicated support structure for the upcoming Booster V2.
