I'm Michael Knowles, and this month on The Book Club, we are reading Up From Slavery
by Booker T. Washington with the great Carol Swain.
Carol, can you summarize this man's life in 10 seconds?
Probably not.
This is a man who changed America because coming out of slavery, he showed what black
people could do for themselves.
And so he is someone that needs to be read today because he has a message for our racial
issues and problems.
You actually did succeed at some—but of course, there's so much more to say about
Booker T. Washington, and we will do that on the episode.
