House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announces the House is launching an impeachment inquiry
of President Joe Biden.
Veteran NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers is out for the season after a major injury while
a college football coach is suspended after accusations of sexual misconduct.
All this plus your news to know starts right now.
What's up guys, welcome to the wrap up where we break down the biggest stories of the week
that you might have missed and definitely need to know.
In a press conference on Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed a special panel to
launch an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
Here is what McCarthy had to say in his own words.
In total, McCarthy cited at least six separate allegations that led to the decision, including
the House Oversight Committee's findings that Biden, quote, did lie to the American people
A CBS News investigative report said, quote, more than 150 transactions involving either
Hunter or James Biden's global business affairs were flagged as concerning by U.S. banks for
further review.
Democrats were quick to dismiss the inquiry, with the White House describing the investigation
as, quote, extreme politics at its worst.
Now no word from the current administration on whether or not they held the same view
when the Democrats in the House sought to impeach former President Trump, not once,
but twice.
And as you will recall, both impeachments of the former president resulted in acquittals
by the Senate.
And the president isn't the only Biden facing legal troubles.
On Thursday, prosecutors in Delaware brought three gun-related charges against Hunter Biden
and dotting the president's son after special counsel David Weiss said that he would pursue
charges following the evaporation of a plea deal.
The NFL season is off to a rocky start, especially if you're a Jets fan.
On Monday night, the New York Jets faced off against the Buffalo Bills, but it wasn't long
into the first quarter before things took a turn for the absolute worst when veteran
QB Aaron Rodgers fell to the ground due to an injury to his Achilles tendon and couldn't
get up.
Rodgers is now suspected to miss the entire rest of his season, which might spell serious
trouble for a Jets franchise that was all but riding on the back of the former Green
Bay Packer.
Despite losing Rodgers, the Jets did pull out a victory, overcoming the Bills 22 to
16.
And while Jets fans may have ended the night with a smile on their faces, those who bet
against them at one Wisconsin bar definitely didn't.
According to Barstool Sports, a Wisconsin bar ran a promo that patrons would drink for
free if the Jets lost.
Now, after Rodgers got hurt, everyone in the bar apparently cheered and ran up their tab.
Thing is, the Jets ended up winning.
A news channel was live when the Jets won in overtime and everyone realized they had
to pay.
In this video, well, it won the week.
The mood has changed considerably.
That is because the Jets just won the game on a long touchdown in overtime.
You can take a look.
This is the reaction from a bar where people are realizing the bar tabs they've been racking
up all night, thinking certainly with Rodgers hurt, the bar was going to be paying that
tab.
It is setting in.
They were going to have to go to the bar and pay that tab.
That's where we're at.
Tonight, Bill and Natalie, the house won.
No word on whether or not those headaches and nausea were caused by those crazy bar
tabs or a few hangovers.
Last week, the primetime-led UC Boulder Buffaloes pulled it out and defeated Nebraska handily.
But that wasn't the biggest story.
No victory or loss superseded this one.
It was the erupt suspension of Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker, whose suspension
came about as a result of an allegation of non-consensual phone sex by, ironically enough,
an anti-sexual assault advocate named Brenda Tracy.
The allegations stem from a USA Today report published on Saturday night in which Tucker
is accused of making sexual comments and masturbating during a phone call with Tracy, a women's
advocate and rape survivor.
Tracy reported the incident to the university's Title IX office.
Tucker has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them, quote, completely false and
criticizing the fairness of the investigation.
Tracy, through her attorney, Karen Truszowski, expressed her commitment to the university's
internal investigative process and her intention to keep it private.
During Tucker's suspension, secondary coach Harlan Barnett will serve as acting head coach
and former MSU head coach Mark D'Antonio will become an associate head coach.
Tucker defended his relationship with Tracy, stating it was mutual and private.
He alleged that Tracy did not express offense until months later, following a dispute about
rumors regarding his marriage.
Tracy's attorney plans to release their own statement in response.
The situation has raised questions about the upcoming university hearing, with Tucker criticizing
it as a sham not designed to cover the actual truth.
It's time for your news to know.
Last week, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham unilaterally issued a 30-day ban on
concealed carry in the state.
The ban bars the carrying of handguns in public and covers both open and concealed carry.
Despite the fact that open carry is permitted in New Mexico without a license, any person
who is at least 19 years old and legally entitled to possess a firearm can open carry.
Immediately, the ban received backlash from both Democrats and Republicans.
New Mexico State Representative John Block responded to Grisham's order by calling for
the governor's impeachment.
Bernardillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman made clear Saturday that he will not be enforcing
the ban.
Even gun control activist David Hogg slammed Grisham's order in a post on 2X, writing,
quote, I support gun safety, but there is no such thing as a state public health emergency
exception to the U.S. Constitution.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge David Herrera Urias, a Joe Biden appointee, issued a temporary
restraining order against the concealed carry ban.
Urias issued the temporary restraining order against the ban in a suit brought by the Gun
Owners Association of America and other plaintiffs, including the National Association for Gun
Rights and the Gun Owners Foundation, among others.
