Why Didn't Germany Conquer All Of France In 1940?
In the Second World War, in May 1940 the German Wehrmacht invaded The Netherlands, Belgium, and France, knocking France out of the war in just 6 weeks, something they had failed to do in the First World War. Yet despite the total defeat of the French Army, a zone in the south and centre of France remained a 'free zone' with its own government, army, and navy. So, why didn't the Germans take all of France in 1940?
