Mariah Carey sits down with Drew Barrymore for a special Halloween and Christmas mash-up to reflect on 30 years since her "Merry Christmas" album, and so much more.
Dougie!
Oh, there he is!
Hi, friend.
Oh, Dougie, good morning!
How are you guys?
So cute, of course.
May I let out a little secret
that I had the privilege of,
well, a couple things we did.
Number one, I was lucky enough
to be a part of your Christmas special,
and I was lucky enough to sort of,
that's me on stage,
tell the story.
So good.
And tell the story of,
a little bit of the origin story
of your connection to Christmas.
And, you know,
we actually got the pleasure
of being able to get on the phone
and have some really nice,
what ended up becoming,
girl talks.
Yeah.
At one point, I felt so comfortable
and casual and natural speaking to you
that I had moments of like,
wait, I'm on the phone with Mariah Carey,
and yet we're speaking like friends.
Well, it's not like I don't look at you like,
I've known him my whole life.
That's how I feel about you.
That meant so much to me.
It meant so much to me.
Oh my gosh.
I love this ensemble.
Okay, so,
your attack to,
I meet Mariah in this moment.
So Lee Harris got me a Lanvin dress.
I love it.
Of course it's Lanvin.
And, you know,
this is the 30th anniversary
of this Christmas album,
and so I don't know numbers,
I don't acknowledge them,
but I, you know,
yes, this is the 30th anniversary of the album.
I was looking at,
you did an album cover now,
that's a sort of emblematic carbon copy
of your cover of the album then,
and I'm sorry,
but you look the same.
You look as different,
is that your hair is lighter.
That's it.
Otherwise, it's the same person.
It was an homage to the first album,
the first Christmas album that I did.
The reason I loved it as a kid,
Halloween,
was because I didn't grow up with a traditional family.
And to be honest,
the holidays were very triggering for me.
And Halloween was the most empowering.
It didn't matter where you came from,
who you belonged to,
you just got to express yourself
and be so like artistic and empowered.
And that was sort of my origin story
of why I fell in love with Halloween.
Right.
Now,
kids, myself,
I am so all out.
I've got the Christmas box with the Sharpie
that says ornaments,
we collect them.
I love that one.
By the way,
you're making ornaments.
I'm making ornaments.
It's some,
what are they called?
I'm like,
what are they called?
You have wrapping paper.
Yes.
Look at the wrapping paper.
Snow globes.
Snow globe.
That's what I was looking for.
Yes.
I love snow globes.
Okay.
You went to the Great Wall of China,
which is a place I've always wanted to go my whole life.
What was it like?
Oh my gosh.
Huge.
Best description ever.
Ignore all the reviews.
The Great Wall of China.
Huge.
Thank you.
I was hoping it was as big as I wanted it to be.
It's so huge.
I mean,
I couldn't really like walk that far in the-
And why couldn't you walk that far?
Nobody knows this,
but I'll tell you.
So I had on high heels
that you kind of like,
they know that part,
that you like slide in.
Because I just,
in case like,
you know,
whatever,
someone took a picture of me,
I was like,
you know,
I want the outfit to look,
you know?
A possible solution for you for next time.
Okay.
For the next Great Wall trip.
Yeah.
By the way,
I'd like to go with you.
I don't mean to invite myself.
Let's go,
of course.
You make it a million times better.
Yes.
these are sold out everywhere.
You cannot get them,
but we managed to get one pair.
Oh my gosh.
These are the new.
Oh,
these are so cute.
So,
these are the new sneaks
made by the woman who invented Spanx.
So these are not Spanx,
they're sneaks.
I love these.
And in,
you know,
love and romance,
I ask as one single mother to another,
do you have any wisdom or advice for me?
You know,
how are we ever gonna meet someone to go on a date?
Why don't you do a whole themed show
about the dating game?
Like make it like an old school throwback,
the dating game.
And then have like guys as you,
we decide who they are
and you'll find somebody in two seconds.
It's so,
right?
Is she not going to?
China.
Maybe we will.
Sneaker heels.
Okay.
We have an audience trivia question.
Before we take a break,
we actually want to ask a super fan in the audience
about something to do with Mariah
and it's to win an exciting trip.
Actually a very exciting trip.
Ross is in the audience.
We're tossing to Ross.
Rossy.
Hello.
Hi everybody.
I gotta tell you,
I'm sitting out here with a bunch of Mariah Carey's
super fans.
So much fun watching this interview.
I want you to meet,
this is Adrienne.
Hi Adrienne.
Hi, how are you?
Well, I'm fine,
but say hi to Mariah Carey and Drew.
Hi, hi, hi.
Hi Drew and Mariah,
I love you.
So here's the trivia question.
What was Mariah's nickname in high school?
A, mistletoe,
B, mirage,
or C, missy.
And you wait and hold that thought
because after the break,
we're going to find out the answer
and the hilarious reason why.
I love this backstory,
by the way.
And by the way,
I just want to also say that this trip
is to go see Mariah Carey
at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Thank you.
