Many people have trouble adjusting to using side-handle teapots (a.k.a. “kyusus”). In this video, Alice quickly explains the best way to hold and pour tea from a side-handle teapot, including some tips for left-handed people.
Hi everyone.
Welcome back to the Red Blossom Tea Channel.
Today we'll look at how to use a Sai Handle Pot.
Sai Handle Pots are called Kyusus.
You pick up the teapot by putting your hand on the handle here, and when you pour, you
need to keep your other hand on the lid, or if you want, you could put your index finger
on here if it's not too hot.
So I have some white tea in the teapot.
I'm going to add some hot water in.
When handling a Sai Handle Pot like this, you want to pick it up, and if you want to
pour it into a larger cup, it's ideal because the stream gets released a lot quicker.
It is best not to pour it slowly like this, otherwise it'll drip.
It is best to kind of create an arc and do a 45 degree angle so it pours out quicker.
Do note that Sai Handle Pots are meant for right handers and not left handers.
But I suppose if you really like Sai Handle Pots and you're a left hander, you could use
it as well.
So use your right hand to keep your hand on the lid, and then pour it this way.
But you might want to be a little careful to make sure that the water is not so hot
that it will spill everywhere.
So that is how you use the Sai Handle Pot.
