The Chopin Preludes, Op. 28, are short solo piano pieces written by Frederic Chopin between 1834 and 1839, intended as explorations of the characters of different keys. The iconic examples of such works are those of Johann Sebastian Bach, which appear in his The Well-Tempered Clavier, much of which was composed in the 1720s. Early 19th century composers such as Chopin returned to the idea in a more flexible form.
