Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 30 in E major, Op. 109, composed in 1820, is the third-to-last of his piano sonatas. After the huge Hammerklavier Sonata op. 106, Beethoven returns to a smaller scale and a more intimate character. It is dedicated to Maximiliane Brentano [de], the daughter of Beethoven's long-time friend Antonie Brentano, for whom Beethoven had already composed the short Piano Trio in B♭ Major WoO 39 in 1812.
Musically, the work is characterised by a free and original approach to traditional sonata form. Its centrepiece is the third movement, a set of variations that interpret its theme in a variety of individual ways.

In the video, you can see herb Paris (Einbeere, Paris quadrifolius). It grows in sparse forests. What looks like an environment created for it is actually what suits it particularly well. The berry is poisonous (antidote: a lot of milk) and, according to the herbalist Father Künzle, only the leaves can be used as a herbal remedy, and only externally. ‘Leaves of the Herb Paris (Paris quadrifolius) and the common woundwort (Anthyllis vulneraria) prepared with lard make a good healing ointment,’ according to the great herbalist Künzle.

The Herb Paris was filmed by Simone Schlegel in a beautiful forest in Switzerland. The video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
