Francisco de Asís Tárrega y Eixea, known as Francisco Tárrega, was a Spanish classical guitarist of the Romantic period and guitar teacher.

As a composer, Tárrega was conservative, his style conforming to the general trends in the second half of the 19th century. He was a virtuoso on his instrument and was called the "Sarasate of the guitar".

Tárrega is considered a pioneer of the 20th century classical guitar and the increasing interest in the guitar as a performance instrument. Tárrega preferred small, intimate performances to the concert stage.
