China’s trucks and ships are mixing transportation of edible oil and chemical oils

China is dealing with significant problems related to the mixed transportation of edible and chemical oils, whether by land or waterways. This has resulted in public outrage, prompting many people to look for safer alternatives such as imported or homemade oils. However, commentators believe that avoiding problematic foods is nearly impossible under the current system.

According to a report by Caixin, edible oil is frequently transported alongside other oil products because there is a shortage of dedicated ships for its transportation. A captain mentioned that mixed transport used to be common in the past and only required a fraudulent cabin cleaning certificate. Ship cleaning companies have confirmed that they are able to issue the required certificates for a small fee without actually conducting proper cleaning.
