”The Wisdom of Brunhild” - Soundtrack from Divine Messengers - Epoch TV

This piece of music is part of the soundtrack for the documentary drama ”Divine Messengers”, from the episode "The Viking Prophecy of Salvation". The lyrics in this piece are arranged from ”The Poetic Edda”, one of the most important works in Norse literature. Central to the saga is the hero and fearless warrior Sigurd (aka Siegfried), known for slaying the dragon Fafnir and acquiring a cursed treasure. The saga details the tragic love story between Sigurd and the valkyrie Brunhild (Sigrdrífa). Valkyries are half-divine beings who aid people on earth. At one point Brunhild interferes with Odin's decisions, leading to her fall from divine status. (Odin is a principal deity in Norse mythology, often referred to as the All-Father).
As punishment, Brunhild is sent to live in the mortal world, cursed to marry and love. Sigurd, who is to become a great and well-know character within the Viking mythology, discovers Brunhild sleeping on a mountain, and awakens her. They fall in love, and out of care for Sigurd, Brunhild passes on the divine wisdom that she remembers.

The singer of this piece is the talented and pitch-perfect Sandra Karinsdotter. We tweaked the piece so as to fit a TV-series, yet trying to keep instruments and sound somewhat close to what could imagine being a ”Norse sound”, even though music in those times was very elementary. The soundtrack video include English subtitles.
