TVI / PIT on Chevy Cruze sends it rolling into a tree - Suspect flees into the woods #pursuit #chase
Trooper's Report:
On Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 at approximately 2:20 a.m., I was sitting stationary on the right shoulder of Interstate 430
North near the 5 mile marker. I observed a gray Chevrolet Cruze traveling in the #2 traffic lane, the vehicle had a passenger
side headlight which was not operating. I entered the roadway and activated my emergency lights to attempt an enforcement
stop as the vehicle entered Interstate 630 East from Interstate 430 North.
The vehicle took the 6B exit onto John Barrow and turned South. I then activated my emergency sirens as the vehicle
approached Kanis Road. The vehicle then entered a gas station at the intersection of John Barrow and Kanis and began to
drive around the gas pumps and stopped on the far Southeast corner of the parking lot. Based on the drivers hesitancy to stop,
and his vehicle positioning to reenter the roadway, I exited my patrol unit and began to give the driver orders to turn the vehicle
off. The driver, a black male, looked back to me and advised he couldn't hear me. I was able to get a clear look at the drivers
face at this time. I observed the male driver to be wearing a white tee shirt, with no seatbelt on.
The driver continued to say he could not hear me and he began to reach back up to the steering column. I once again advised
the driver against fleeing. The driver then put the vehicle into drive and began to accelerate East on Kanis Road. I notified
Troop A Communications that I would be in pursuit. The vehicle continued to drive in the center turn lane reaching speeds of
approximately 60 MPH. As the suspect vehicle began to make a right turn onto Michael Drive, I positioned myself on the right
side of the suspect vehicle to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). I conducted a TVI causing the vehicle to rotate
clockwise before the vehicle rolled backwards into a tree.
The driver fled on foot into a heavily wooded area. After a short foot pursuit the suspect escaped in the heavily wooded area.
The Little Rock Police Department responded to assist, but the suspect was not located. JHook Towing was called to take
possession of the vehicle. An search of the vehicle yielded a title and bill of sale which showed the registered owner of the
vehicle recently sold the vehicle to his son, Justin Walker. I conducted a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) query on
Mr. Walker and was able to positively identify Mr. Walker as the suspect from the pursuit.
A hold was placed on the vehicle. A warrant will be sought for Mr. Walker for the following;
5-54-125(d)(3) 2023 - Fleeing - Vehicle or Conveyance
27-36-209 - Defective/Improper Headlight
27-37-702 - No Seatbelt
27-16-303 - Driving on a Suspended License
