Bach explored all the possibilities in the slow movements of his Sonata in D minor for violin and harpsichord: they can resemble movements from any number of Baroque musical genres, including concertos, chamber works, dance suites, cantatas or accompanied arias; and the textures in the keyboard and violin were often new departures from previously known compositions.
