It is one of the most famous introductions in music. It portrays a victory of light over darkness. Richard Strauss prefaced the score with the "Hymn to the Sun" from Nietzsche's philosophical work "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" - with the key sentence for the musicians: "Music has dreamed too long; now we want to awaken. Nightwalkers we were, daywalkers we want to become."
Nietzsche wrote in Ecce Homo that the central idea of his hermit figure Zarathustra came to him through a "pyramid-shaped block of stone" on the shore of Lake Silvaplana, Engadine, Switzerland. The video was made from the vantage point on the Spiezberg, far from the Engadine. As coincidence would have it, this view was taken at the foot of the Niesen mountain, a "pyramid-shaped mountain in the foothills of the Alps".
I like the epic sounds of "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" very much. However, I'm not sure, if I like the planes in the video as much. On the one hand they shoot through the sky like comets, on the other hand they contrast with the nature scene.
This contrast can also be seen between Strauss' musical idea of the "victory of light over darkness" and Nietzsche's literary idea of Nihilism and the debate about whether God is dead. In my humble opinion, Nietzsche's idea of nihilism is what led him into despair and tragedy.
