Whoever planted mint directly to the ground in their garden knows what it is.
But we can grow mint in any garden, provided that we limit it in some way.
And in this video I will tell you how to grow mint, how to plant it, care for it and multiply it.
Well, I hope the video will be useful.
Well, let's get to work.
Mint, apart from taste and aroma, has several characteristic features.
One of them is that it has a square trunk in the cross section.
And that it grows very well.
Also one of these features is that it is very easy to root.
When we plant mint directly to the ground, we have to take into account that it can, unfortunately,
mute other plants that grow next to it.
Well, unless we have such an assumption.
For example, some shaded nook.
For example, under a tree and we don't know what to plant there.
And we would need a green carpet.
In this case, mint is perfect for such a solution.
Unfortunately, in the fall I had to plant mint directly to the ground.
Just cover it.
Because I had nowhere to plant it.
I mean, I knew they would end up here in the pot, but I didn't have time to do it.
And let's see how much it has grown.
This is apple mint.
Mint naturally grows and appears all over the world.
And the variety of species is just a multitude.
And every year new varieties and crosses appear.
When it comes to such interesting varieties, such as apple, pineapple or strawberry mint,
it doesn't taste like that at all.
It's a little different in taste, but it's mainly about the aroma.
I prepared a pot here.
So that the mint does not take over our garden, it is best to plant it in a pot.
And we can do it in a few ways.
The best place to plant mint is a shady, semi-shady position.
For example, under a tree or in a place where the sun rises or sets.
Unfortunately, in the full southern sun, the plant quickly withers.
It runs out of water quickly, but it also becomes such a small, scarlet body.
Right here, under the oak, I have a perfect position for these plants.
And I will plant them in pots.
And I'll tell you how to do it.
In addition to growing mint in such pots, we can bury them.
But more on that in a moment.
When we want to plant mint in a pot, it is worth combining a stand
so that the water that we water or rainwater can accumulate here.
And when the dry days come, it can soak up and wet the roots.
When we choose a pot, of course, it should have holes to drain excess water.
I'll take an empty pot, because it's pouring out of them here.
I've already filled the ground.
I use production pots for larger bushes and trees.
Of course, we can use decorative pots for this.
But it is important that they have holes to drain excess water.
We pour a draining layer at the bottom.
We can use, of course, the popular, well-known, probably to everyone, keramzit.
And we pour about one-fourth, one-fifth of the height of the pot.
I just use larger pieces of bark, twigs or pieces of raw boards for draining.
Thanks to the fact that the wood soaks up water and dry days come,
the moisture from the wood is transferred to the substrate and roots.
Because in the cultivation of mint, it is very important to keep the moisture in the substrate.
When I pour in the draining layer, it's time to prepare the substrate.
It is worth using the substrate on the basis of the minted peat.
Peat absorbs moisture and also gives back to the roots.
I, because I visit the garden, let's say, on the weekend,
I'm not here every day, so I'm not able to control the substrate all the time.
I make a mix of soil for cultivation, weight, fertilizer, on the basis of minted peat.
And I add some clay to it.
Clay is rich in nutrients, but it also absorbs moisture and is a reservoir for a little later.
If we pour clay, it's worth crushing all the lumps in your hands.
When I fill the pot with a draining layer, I pour about 3-4 cm of clay soil.
Then I pour 3-4 cm of peat soil again.
I mix it, then I pour the soil out of the bag, not on the edge.
I leave about 3-4 cm below the edge and add some more clay.
And I mix it thoroughly.
And we have a prepared substrate for planting mint.
Here I have prepared a place for the mint that I dug up.
Yes, this is the gagatek.
Mint can be very easily multiplied by the collected shoots.
It is important that the top, which is so flexible, also has a few centimeters of stiffer shoots and nodes.
Nodes are the places from which the leaves grow.
And from these lower nodes, two, three, we cut off the leaves.
It is important that this shoot at the top is quite stiff.
If it is soft, such a shoot will rot faster than it will root.
And so we can put the collected shoot into the water and wait for the roots to come out.
If they are about 4-5 cm, we can transfer them to a pot or just directly stick such a torn shoot into the substrate.
It roots very quickly.
And it is important to keep an eye on the substrate so that it is constantly slightly moist.
Mint can also be multiplied by division, tearing the plant apart or picking up a piece of twig that already has roots, which have already rooted.
When we plant mint in a pot or, for example, small cuttings, we do not plant it directly at the walls of the pot.
Leave about 3-4 cm because the substrate dries very quickly at the walls of the pot, and the mint does not like it.
I will also stick the cut shoots.
They thicken.
It is such a fast-growing plant and easy to root that you can do it really easily.
I gently press the substrate around the plant.
I can cut it here.
I could easily tear this cutting in half and plant it in two places so that the plant is quickly thickened by the mint.
But I will plant it right in the middle.
It will be fine anyway.
It will quickly root here.
And of course, after planting, we water it.
We try to keep the substrate constantly slightly moist.
This is the planted one.
I also have two cuttings here.
I don't know what variety it is.
It can be pepper because it smells like pepper to me.
And this is chocolate.
So the chocolate one will end up here, and the pepper one in this smaller pot.
It is quite important that when we plant mint in a pot, it is better not to plant other herbs, other plants, because this plant will quickly drown it.
But it is also important not to plant different varieties of mint in one pot, because their aromas are mixed.
When we plant mint and see the substrate, it is worth covering it with larger pieces of bark or, for example, with mowed grass.
Thanks to this, we keep more moisture in the substrate.
I will do it.
Only off camera.
When mint grows in a pot for several seasons, we can notice something.
Mint begins to grow in such a way that the pot inside is empty and the shoots around the pot.
In this case, it is enough to pull out the plant, take the cuttings and plant them in the middle.
Rejuvenate, refresh the mint.
When we want to plant mint directly into the ground, but limit its growth,
for example, plastic or metal cuttings will not work at all.
They will easily grow further.
Planting in such pots is a waste of work.
It is even worth choosing production pots that are high.
But when we choose a pot, it is worth paying attention to where such pots have holes to draw water.
This one has, we see at the bottom, so it will be perfect.
However, such a pot that has on the sides, unfortunately, the plant can grow this way.
One of the viewers wrote to me that he limited the growth of his mint,
which he planted in the ground by digging a drainage pipe, such an orange one.
He did not write how deep, but I suspect that these 40 cm were the minimum.
When we choose a pot that we want to dig, it is important that this plastic is relatively elastic and stiff.
Not as delicate as, for example, in such pots,
because, unfortunately, the roots of mint are thick and can tear, destroy such a pot.
And these, I think, calmly keep the roots of mint in the grooves.
When we dig a pot with mint into the ground, it is important to plant the mint a little flatter,
so that the shoots can rest on the edge of the pot, so that they do not lie on the ground and root.
And it is also worth placing the pot a little above the ground, about 6-7 cm.
This mint grows here for the fourth season and, as we can see, it grows only in the pot, it does not grow anywhere.
What I did, I poured about 5-6 cm of clay soil on the bottom,
so that the moisture from the ground, from the surroundings, could seep into this clay, and then seep into the ground.
In addition, such a layer of broken clay is not very conducive to the growth of mint roots.
When we want to cut the mint, it is best to do it just before noon, then it has the best aroma.

In general, on my second channel, which is dedicated only to garden topics,
because in some time garden topics from home plants will be divided,
I uploaded a video that is dedicated to preparing us to go out to the garden,
what is worth paying attention to.
Such a loose lifestyle topic.
So if you are interested, I invite you.
In the meantime, enjoy your work in the garden. Regards.
