Police are searching for a motive following a deadly shooting at a northern Minnesota motel.
It happened in Cloquet, just southwest of Duluth.
Investigators say three people, including the alleged suspect, were killed at a Super 8.
WCCO's Adam Duxter has the latest on the investigation and a town in shock today.
The lot at the Cloquet Super 8 empty Tuesday morning.
Police still trying to make sense of what happened here hours earlier.
Homicides, but nothing to this nature.
It's a tragedy. I think we plan for these types of situations.
Hope that it doesn't happen in your community.
Police say just after 6.30 Monday night, a 32-year-old Ramsey man, a hotel guest,
shot and killed a 22-year-old Cloquet woman working the front desk.
Then he allegedly went into the parking lot where he shot and killed a 35-year-old man
from Deer River still in his car.
That's when police say he turned the gun on himself.
Last night was a very difficult night for our community.
The entire incident took just minutes.
It was pretty scary having that in your backyard.
And led people nearby, like Angie Koss, to shelter in place.
We went and shut off all our lights, locked our doors, made sure all the vehicles were locked,
because we didn't know what was going on.
Police say surveillance video helped them quickly clear the scene.
But nearly a day later, they're still unsure of motive or if this was a random act of violence.
People in this town say they never thought would happen here.
I would hope they'd come together and do something special for the family.
I mean, it's got to be hard for them, a 20-year-old young woman.
I mean, she had her whole life before her, and here she is at her job, doing her job.
And, I mean, it could happen to anybody.
Adam Duxter, WCCO News.
Police say this is still an active investigation.
They do not anticipate sharing the name of anyone involved until at least tomorrow.
