It's 6 o'clock on this Friday. Thank you so much for joining
us here live on FOX 5 and streaming on FOX local and this
is a trip Friday, we're winning big Friday, I'm so happy to be
here and I want to twin with Marissa. I think we've
succeeded. I love it show that Taylor yeah, and may who's not
on today's a trip.
The first one that I haven't been on the side being. Yeah,
don't worry, I'll be back next week.
Haha 45 will be live in Frederick, yes, it's going to
be a nice morning out there where he thinks up though
today. It looks like we're going to hold off the storms
in the rain though for our zip trip out there in Frederick
going to be very humid though so if you're planning to head
out make sure you dress accordingly stay hydrated we
could still see maybe some pop-up storms later on today,
but it should be more limited than what we dealt with
yesterday of course have more on that forecast coming up
anyway, all right, thanks for taking a look here 6 o'clock
now to 70 in the South and direction if you're planning on
traveling there 70 towards the beltway should be about 29
minutes, you're looking great right now for that 32 mile
stretch and be too bad for you this morning as you head out
the door, we're set back to you.
All right, thanks so much it was a late night for the
Fairfax County school board as they keep working on the plan
for the new skyview high school, yeah, we know boundary
changes are needed to fill the new school last night
superintendent doctor Michelle Reid officially presented her
preferred options we've got 5 sides on the on like live in
Herndon with the updates on what's changing and what's not
good morning now.
Good morning. Yes, so this was a work session there were a
number of things on the agenda later in the evening is when
they got to the redistricting the boundary changes needed to
fill skyview high school here it went on to into the wee hours
of the morning as you guys have mentioned so here's the thing
redistricting is never easy, but when you have a new school
that's certainly an exciting thing. The thing that makes
people anxious are the changes that are required to bring
students in to fill it 3 options for filling the new
skyview high school have been whittled down to one the
preferred option recommendation one will affect about 2500
students in the Chantilly Westfield in South Lakes school
boundaries. It would phase in over 3 years with a full 9th to
12th grade in 2028 to 2029 the first year students are opting
in and then in the second year students who are drawn into the
school do have an opt out choice at the same time fcps is
also adjusting the boundaries of Centerville high school and
some of the middle schools in part to rebalance the student
population to address overcrowding at some and under
enrollment at others board members hope families will
realize how hard fcps staff has worked to try to solve this
puzzle.
Is there a easy solution for this is there a mass solution
for this and your team was like no there's not it's it's very
difficult it's hard to do there's so many competing
priorities and they're trying to get it right. There's not an
easy solution for this it's not perfect nothing can be perfect
in life. But it is almost to the perfection what we I'm
looking at it so I thank you to all the team who's worked so
much their time on this I really appreciate it.
Fcps has held several community roundtables prior to developing
its recommendations one notable changes that an earlier version
would have shifted some elementary school boundaries as
well. But now those elementary school boundaries will remain
intact. So there are 2 more opportunities for the public
here. One is of just a public meeting on July 13th and then a
school board meeting on July 16th where doctor Michelle Reid
will present the final recommendation and a
transportation plan and then it will be up to the school board
members to vote on it.
Thank you today is day 2 of a new shuttle bus system during
Metro's red line closure just a reminder Metro really
relocating some of the shuttle buses meant for impacted riders
to the friendship Heights bus bay K that's along Wisconsin
Avenue. Meantime other Metro buses are moving across the
street to Western Avenue express shuttles to North
Bethesda will remain in front of the trader Joe's these changes
are expected to last up until September 6.
The search is on this morning for a suspect wanted in a
double shooting in DC this comes after police found a man and a
woman shot last night just before 8 o'clock on Knox place
in Southeast. The 2 were taken to the hospital no update yet
on their condition or a possible motive at this time and the man
accused of opening fire at a Metro bus stop and injuring 5
people in January. It's expected in court today Anthony
doesn't see more more Alice excuse me he's facing nearly 70
charges for that shooting. This happened on 16th Street
Northwest near Missouri Avenue. Investigators say the suspect
first sexually assaulted a juvenile on the bus. An
argument ensued before said what Alice opened fire.
A 10 story office building in Glen Burnie remains under
investigation due to structural concerns the building was
evacuated yesterday afternoon fire officials tell us the
floor partially shifted during repair work inside of the
empire towers underground parking garage. Fortunately
everybody made it out safely, it's still unclear when that
building will reopen.
I know most 6 to 5 and he's time to head outside take a
look at the cam at Frederick this morning with the beautiful
clouds and I think Taylor was saying it's going to be a good
day for zip trip there. Yes, me a great day out there and
we're to heat it up pretty quickly, but it's a nice day
were to hold off any kind of showers or storms until later
on today if we get and thank you Taylor, yeah, so hopefully
you want to head out if you do just make sure you stay
hydrated. It's very humid out there this morning. So again,
it's going to feel uncomfortable for sure upper
60's to low 70's with the temperatures right now a heads
up, I know we have dealt with some fogs for several mornings
this week looks very limited this morning, but heads up
Culpeper you could see reduced visibility due to this
temperatures upper 60's to low 70's it's more or less that
high humidity that's going to make you feel uncomfortable
more moving forward again showers are holding off for now
but we will eventually see at least a chance for a couple of
pop-up storms anytime during the afternoon between 2, 3,
4, 5 o'clock we're going to gain more cloud coverage
to as the day goes on hit the upper 80's around noon and then
cloudy with maybe a storm possible upper 80's by 5
o'clock you go ahead and I take a look at the weekend forecast
as well by downloading the fox local app I have to do is
getting to our code right there on your screen. All right,

it all look at Maryland to 10 the city northbound direction
very road towards Bellway should be about 13 minutes
right now for 10 miles so pretty normal see and maybe a
few minutes increase there is a more people are up and out on
here for this Friday morning. This is a 95 in the northbound
direction, 25 minutes want to go towards about way for 26
miles again looking great a mile a minute even better than
that looking through Virginia for Friday morning, this is 66
obviously in the eastbound direction Gainesville towards
the Bellway hovering around 19 which is pretty good 95 point
of controls Bellway just took a look at that there it's about
17 and then between the Bellway and the 14 tree bridge for 3.95
of course as you head closer to the city should only be about
10 minutes finally take a look at your overview, this is what
it looks like
the only real place you're seeing maybe it increases DC to
95 see kind of this red zone right here and then you'll see
a little bit of it on this is the outer loop of the
Bellways are traveling over the American Legion bridge kind of
from 2.70 and that little chunk right there towards the bridge
we were looking at something that has since cleared. So it's
about 30 miles an hour there are some back to you.
Several days of back and forth retaliatory airstrikes between
the U.S. and the Islamic Republic threatening the
interim ceasefire deal the U.S. launching new airstrikes
against Iran early yesterday.
Tehran responded by hitting U.S. allied Mideastern countries
Iranian officials accusing the U.S. of targeting the country's
sole nuclear power plant. This also comes as a supreme leader
was laid to rest he was killed in the opening warfare of the
Iran war.
The Afghan national accused of a deadly ambush on to West
Virginia National Guard troops to the White House has been
hospitalized. Prosecutors say run a lot lock and wall was
rushed for emergency treatment after refusing food and water
in pretrial custody. Lock and wall has pleaded not guilty to
the November 2025 attack that killed specialist Sarah
Beckstrom and critically wounded staff sergeant Andrew
Wolfe 8 men have been indicted for their roles in an alleged
terror plot targeting last month's White House UFC fights
their charge with 2 counts of conspiracy. The indictments
alleges the plot started back in May when the group collected
guns, explosives, drones and money. Federal prosecutors say
they were stopped just days before the fights in the White

would have involved flying explosive drones into the event
then shooting people in the crowd as they ran away.
Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn is due back in court next
month after pleading not guilty to damaging the reflecting
pool. Prosecutors claim he caused more than $1000 in
damages this week 3 other people were also charged for
allegedly damaging the reflecting pool. Final approval
could come in September from the National Capital Planning
Commission for the president's controversial arch. The 250 foot
structure could soon tower over Memorial Circle near Arlington
National Cemetery. The height of the arch is a major concern for
many of those who oppose the project. Opponents also say they
will now take the issue to Congress. They believe federal
law requires congressional approval for such a project.
Palm Beach International Airport has officially been rebranded
as President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The new
name went into effect with Trump's private plane becoming
the very first flight to land under the new moniker. The
renaming is expected to cost about $5.5 million paid by the
state of Florida and public airport revenues not by
President Trump or the Trump organization. Maine Democrats
have signed a tentative motion for a new nominating convention
to pick a replacement for disgraced Senate candidate Graham
Plattner. Plattner who is currently embroiled in sexual
assault allegations officially withdrew from the U.S. Senate
race in Maine earlier this week. The nominating convention will
be led by approximately 600 delegates. The party has up
until July 27th to name a new nominee. Your time now at 610
tracking the rats still ahead the new tool in DC that shows
you where the rodents are hanging out and what's being
done to fix the problem. Yeah, a fun problem later on how
artificial intelligence is transforming health care by
helping doctors swamped at the office.
