《西麓堂琴统》题解：
嵇康夜鼓琴王伯林空馆中，见八魅跽灯下，因叱之。对曰，某周时伶官，赐死於此，腐骨未化，愿求迁转，明发，语柏林，掘得遗骸葬之，夜梦八人罗拜而去。康神其事，乃托此弄。

ENCOUNTERING GHOSTS IN ABANDONED MANSION is divided into 12 pieces:
Untitled, sitting uprightly, ghosts' appearance, strange winds, thunder and lightning, scolding ghosts, ghosts' complaints, ghosts out, scream and shout, dawn view, cock crowing，drumming.
Each pieces uses a soft and ethereal melody to illustrate the sadness of the ancient scholars under the storm of imperial power and the iron curtain.
