Hi, in this video I'm going to show you my method to paint the head of my dragon.
We will therefore start from the stylized drawing to the color.
Obviously, you can adapt all this to your own creatures and I don't know if that's your case.
In any case, with my students, they have a limiting thought at first.
They all think that this step is very tense,
while it is very, very, very simple, especially if you master a specific step in this method.
Often, I hear them say that they do not master the color because they do not know how to choose them,
how to combine them, how to mix them.
And so, they don't dare to touch it.
Maybe you too, you see, you don't dare to touch it.
You always stay at the stage of the drawing in black and white, unfortunately.
While there are much simpler methods to get there.
This is what I'm going to show you today, just in three steps.
You'll see, we're going to start by redrawing the dragon quickly,
where we're going to get close to a final rendering, just to the line drawing.
And then we move on to the shadows.
You will see that it is the shadow step that is the most important.
It really determines the success of the color.
That is to say, the more you master this step,
the next step, which is the color, will be easier.
And I can tell you that it's practically coloring after.
That's what I'm going to show you.
Let's go!
Here, we're going to continue this drawing.
We're going to make an almost finalized version in black and white for now.
For the color, I'm not sure yet.
But in terms of result, at least in terms of detail,
I found this reference which is great.
That's exactly what I wanted.
Just for the head, at the level of the feather treatment, you see.
We have both a mixture of lines and a mixture of paint.
You see, with the little spots here, it's lines and mass.
And that works really well, especially from afar.
You see, the textures, especially here, it works really well.
I apologize in advance because I couldn't find the artist's name who drew this.
So there you go.
It's always ethical to always put the artist's name when you use them.
I took this.
It's super good.
In addition, it's in the style I want.
This kind of style, you know, with well-trimmed nails,
it's called the cut-out style.
Cut-out.
Cut and out.
So it's edges that are super sharp.
That's what I like.
It's super energetic.
It's super modern too.
Here, what I like is the feather rendering that I'm going to reuse.
It's super good too.
It's a game that Amazon is currently developing.
You see, the rendering works really well.
But I find it too detailed in my style.
Then this is the style, the way of the shadows.
You see, it's a little bit the same style as them, as this artist.
The same style.
This is League of Legends.
So here, you see, we have spots.
It's almost like manga, but not too much either.
That's why I like it.
And here, it's American cartoon.
Very flat.
With nails that are well worked.
Very comic.
So that's what I like.
So we're going to try to mix the two.
But we're going to start with this kind of treatment in terms of details.
There is a problem that I find with hindsight.
I took a little break to continue on this drawing.
I find that there are too many details.
Too, too, too many details.
So I'm going to try to delete.
I'm going to merge.
