Hi, today I have the pleasure of showing you how I created a new character for my Celtic fantasy universe
who will be the bad witch, she is the main antagonist of my story
she will be rather sexy, seductive, but especially sly
and she will fight against the main characters of my story
so we have the druid warrior who is the hero's mentor
this witch as an inspiration from the beginning, what I know
for example, Saruman, you know, he is the big bad guy who manipulates the story in the shadows
but you also have Melisandre who is a rather manipulative woman
who manipulates some of the main characters of the Game of Thrones series
and also as an aesthetic, what I like a lot is Maleficent
whose costume has a very dynamic design that I like a lot
but I have a big problem and I think it's the biggest challenge I'm going to have
is that you know how to adapt this aesthetic of Maleficent
in a Celtic universe where we have a little bit old clothes
a little bit not very colorful either, you know, with very soft clothes
with shoes that are barely galoshes, which are very very very ugly
what I'm going to try is to draw a rather extravagant character in a Celtic universe
so I'm going to show you how I'm going to do the sketches, how I'm going to find the ideas
and how to generate lots of ideas to find the right one
so it's a very interesting video for you if you already lack creativity or ideas to draw your characters
To start, especially before drawing, I spent a lot of time doing reference searches
I have like 140 images and there I did the sorting
so in particular here, what I like a lot is this picture of a series called Britannia
so here you see what I love above all, it's the feathers here that make its cape
why feathers? It's because my witch is represented by a crow
that is to say that she has the power to control crows, she has the power to transform into a crow
or the power to fly, I'm not sure yet, we'll see design in relation to that
why crow? It's because you see the Celtic druid, the nice side, he is represented by a boar
and that's why we have a confrontation, boar, crow in my story
so it really allows the viewer to understand the difference between these two characters
There is also something that is interesting, we find a lot of inspiration in the fashion design
you see the feathers are used a lot in the clothes, even here, even if it's not feathers
it's more of a cover here but it should be feathers instead
so it's very interesting, even here I find it very interesting, it's also in the series Britannia
what I especially like is the use of feathers here
after her costume, I don't really like it, it looks like a costume made of recycling tires
it's horrible but visually it works super well
after I also went to see the side of the Romans
you know in the story it's a witch who is in conflict with the Romans who are invading the Celts in their territory
so we're going to say that in a way she can wear Roman clothes and that she has Celtic magic
you see it's a mixture of Roman and Celtic together
so it's a little challenge to merge between the two cultures
so here you know what I really like is the dress that really highlights the woman's body here
but there are also things that are rather unstructured here that could also be feathers of the witch
I also went to see in the fantasy, I really like the feathered shoulders here
even here the top of the body with feathers
I really like that too but more at the level of the dress here
and I find that when we see the legs here I find it rather sexy the design
but I think I'm going to add a little decolletage to make it a little sexier
for example here what I like a lot, what I find very sexy is especially at the level of the silhouette
which makes a character design sexy
then what I found which is very interesting is this symbol called Triquetra
you know when I see this symbol it immediately reminds me of the series Charmed
so let's say in the collective unconscious when you see this symbol there
you immediately think of a witch which means that it really represents my witch
and what is also interesting is that the wild druid is represented by a triskel
it's a Celtic symbol and so we have a confrontation Triskel, Triquetra which is also Celtic
it really helps the viewer to understand who is good and who is bad
then to be a little more precise here
I went to see at the level of the clothes a little more unstructured
here it makes me think of Daenerys' dress in Game of Thrones
so here it's very pretty but after it's quite transparent anyway
so it should be done a little bit like this violinist
she is very famous on YouTube, she makes very good compositions
so here you see we make a combination of a over-dress, I don't know what it's called
this kind of tunic on, under, clothes, I don't know, to see how I'm going to adapt that
there is also something that I find very interesting here, it's not the neckline but it's especially here
you see, I find it super good to have a dress with two different pieces
so here you see we have the main dress so here which hides the breasts but also which hides the sides
and also we have a kind of veil that hides the front
I find it super good to have two pieces
it's very used in the world of fantasy
you'll see, I'll show you with references when I'm going to draw my character
I also went to see mushrooms and flowers
why is that? it's because when you do design it's always interesting to go and see in the abstract forms
and for example you see this peak shape, this kind of cone with small peaks
it could be a kind of shoulder with feathers, you see, I don't know
this shape of a petal, it could be the shape of the folds of the dress
it allows you to make shapes that you have never seen elsewhere
but also what is interesting with mushrooms is that it is also part of the powers of my witch
that is to say, she has a spell that allows her to transform the population into a kind of mushroom zombie
it's a bit like the infected from last of us, not very original I know
but I wanted to put zombies in this story
so you have to imagine, it's not a drawing of me, it's an inspiration from the start
we will have zombies with spears, shields, something like that
I won't say more, I haven't developed it yet
but it will be in another video, I will show you how I would make the zombies
so if you are interested in seeing how we design zombies
subscribe to see the rest
here, as you can see, I have a lot of ideas, I think I have enough to draw my characters
so from these ideas, Celts, Romans, gothic, mushrooms
we will finally be able to start drawing
I hope I will succeed because it's very hard to mix cultures
especially to merge a witch who wears Roman clothes for example
with Celtic magic, something like that
I don't know what it's going to be like, but we're going to give it a try anyway
here are some characters already drawn, you see, it's drawn in a very very light way
I don't complicate my life, I don't try to be beautiful
and as you can see, I'm also looking for references
what I'm trying to do is to find very pretty shapes
you know, here, the problem is that we have Celts who have very ugly shoes
so I'm going to make an exception, I went to see the sandals a little more modern
so I copied for my character
then what is hard is that here I make 15 sketches
it means that I'm going to fuel a mental level, a creative energy level
I'm going to let go of everything to make my character
it's because often we tend to do 2-3 drawings and we stop there
but we never try to draw a lot, test the shapes
even if I redraw, redraw the same thing
but you will see that there are slight variations
but on 10 drawings with slight variations
you will see that there is a contrast between the first and the last drawing
and this is where you develop your creativity to the fullest, your creative energy to the fullest
it's a bit like muscles, that is to say that to make a muscle grow
you have to break the muscle, that is to say to carry heavier loads
and here the drawing, that's why I force myself to draw 15 characters
and not 2, 3, 4, 15 characters
but in a slightly detached way, you see, with a very ugly line
because the ugly line allows you to free your creativity
you see, I'm not trying to have a perfect drawing
it's just making drawings, not thinking too much
but above all, based on the references
and it is by combining these ideas that you will find the right idea
by trying several different shapes
so here, you know, it's also the start
I've only done 5 drawings, I'm not yet satisfied
I don't know exactly what I want yet
but here, we try, we try, we try
and I hope as this character develops
that I will find the first shapes that will satisfy me
So here are my 3 drawings for now
I still have a lot to do
but here I tried several different shapes
so here we have a witch with a rather extravagant top
with a Roman base
with a kind of tunic here that hides her body a little
but I find it a little too naked for now
it's not what I wanted, it's a little too much
here I find it fits perfectly what I want
but I find that the silhouette doesn't work very well
because you see here
I got some references from my first ideas
it works pretty well but I'm not very good
we also have the shoulders here
I like that a lot, I reused these ideas
but to see it also depends
because I want to put crows on his shoulder here
so we will also see a lot of details
here it's a big problem too
I imagine my character as in a video game or in a comic
and here the shoulders are a little too random
with feathers that go in all directions
it can be very problematic in terms of drawing
imagine if it's a comic, we're going to draw feathers every time
it can be complicated
here I find it a little warrior
with the little ring here on the head
what I like a lot
it makes a proud sister who is very mobile
whereas here she doesn't move too much
she lacks dexterity
because here we have a dress that prevents her from moving a little
or maybe it's her side a little wide of the shoulders
and a little wide of the hips
I think it comes from there
whereas here we have a much thinner outline
in terms of anatomy
I think it's interesting to start on this kind of rather thin body
here are the first three shapes
from there I'm not too satisfied yet
I find it lacks shape
there are no shapes that interest me yet
so we will continue
I hope I will find
after having sketched the first three sketches
I went to see other references
to try to deepen my idea
at the level of the dress of this witch
I was mostly trying to find something rather sexy
so I went on Etsy
what I like is that we have artisanal on this site
and it's great as a place to find references
of clothes for your characters
especially if it's women
then I tried a new drawing
with a top with bird's wings
and a bottom with a mix of fantasy
which I really like
fantasy with shapes that are rather torn
very dynamic in terms of drawing
then here I try something a little more veiled
I like to keep this side where we see the leg
without having it too much
to make the side a little sexier
it's like the right length of a skirt
it's neither too long nor too short
you have to try to find the same thing for this character
if it's too short, it's too bold
if it's too long, it's not interesting to see
here too, I started to break the silhouette
to position myself on the body
that I draw below
but really to bring out the volumes
so here for example at the top
we have shoulders
but also I add here
I don't know what it's called
ribbons that really allow to give shape to the silhouette
to the outline of the character
to break a little more the shape
which gives a much more dynamic side
and I really like this drawing
then I also try to have more shape
here for example
here I try several things
don't hesitate, when you start to draw
and you see that it doesn't work
stop it and erase it
and make a new drawing
here I try a dress
a little more traditional
basic, a little prestige, Celtic
as if it were a bourgeois or a noble
but I'm not a fan either
because here it's too much
basic design
it could be good in a film
because we would see
the real side of the thing
but here we are mostly in the illustration
in the design
and that's why here we have a design
which is a little too flat
even here, you see
I had to add, let's say, ribbons
and shoulders
in feathers
so that it is much more
so that we have a silhouette
a little more visible
and also I added horns
to see
I'm not a fan
apparently it's much more
the people I showed it to
but I think it was too basic
it's too basic
because all the witches have horns
I'm not a fan
we'll see
here too, I'm not a fan
but hey, we're getting to the end
I can't take it anymore
I have no idea
I think it's the penultimate silhouette
that I had to draw
and really from there
you have no idea
you try things
and you see
I'm not a fan
because in terms of detail
it's too flat
there are feathers everywhere
and it doesn't look like anything
even if I tried to try something
I tried to try
a very wild witch
who wears 100% feathers
and the problem is
that we are no longer
on the starting pitch
with a witch
which is rather sexy, seductive
so here we are rather on
let's say
a tribal witch
who has lived all her life in the forest
finally, the last silhouette
it inspired me
I was inspired by a character
Corazon
or rather another character
at the beginning
it's this character
from One Piece
I'm also inspired by mangas
it's just to get an idea
and there I thought
it would be interesting
to add a little more
material
at the level of
clothing
add some crows
even if I'm not going to use them
for now
the crows
but you see
just with the arms
with the feathers
it works really well
I think
and I really like this design
the last design
which is not bad
here are all the drawings
I've had enough of them
from the last three
I've had enough of them
I couldn't take it anymore
I had no idea
my brain
almost burned
so here
there are a lot of drawings
which are very interesting
what I like the most
it's the drawings
where the silhouettes
stand out the most
after that
it's not totally finished
there is still one last step
which is the most important
for me
we're going to put it
in mass
a little bit
like the silhouette behind
the body behind
but
it's the whole
of the drawing
so here for now
my favorites
are those
which are the most dynamic
at the moment
with hair like that
which I like a lot
hair in feathers
it looks a bit like
Dragon Ball
but I think it works
really well
it's quite dynamic
there is also this silhouette
which I like a lot
I don't know what it's going to look like
when I'm going to do
the whole silhouette
but here I have the impression
that it's a witch
rather
in horror
with this pose
a bit like a zombie
with the legs
retracted
it's a bit frustrated
and it fits really well
you see
this one I like a lot
but with the horns
we'll see that later
but
I find it a bit too
too classic
and
this one
I like a lot too
but
I'm not sure
it's going to look good
when I put it
in silhouette
so we'll see
so here
you see
here the drawing
it's not perfect
but
I think
the drawing
is rather badly drawn
it was drawn
quickly
to promote creativity
as I told you
now
we're going to clarify the line
we're going to put it
clean
so
here we go into a part
that I find
a little bit
boring
to do
it's just
line retouching
and clarify his drawing
but that's where
which is the most
pleasant
I find
because
you just have to retouch the lines
and your drawing
the shapes of your character
they reveal themselves like that
you see
here
I made a stylish drawing
here
I don't think it's very good
but you'll see
as I draw
that I'm going to fill
in silhouette
like that
with big black masses
and lighter grays
it really allows you
to see
your design
as basic
as possible
and to see right away
if
ah
this design
can please me
so that
I give myself
the time
in the next 5-10 days
to finalize it
100%
that is
to say
with a drawing
much more detailed
with an anatomy
a little more precise
and with
a design
and drawn accessories
in a very precise way
so there
it will be
in the next video
so here
sign up
if you want to see
how I'm going to finish
this character
there too
what's interesting
is that you also see
the shapes
especially the language
of the shapes
that you will use
to draw
the line
of your character
the language of the shapes
I don't talk about it too much here
but if you want
to know more
I explain the principles
in my private emails
these are small courses
that I send
there are 12
that I send
in your mail box
so to sign up
to these emails
you just have to
click on the link in the description
and enter your email
to receive them
what is super good
also with the method
of the silhouette
that I use
in front of you
is that we also have
a very good vision
of the distribution
of details
so you see
we have big masses
small masses
small details
we have a whole balance
of drawings
with the gaps
with the skin
of the witch
that really allows me
to understand
why my design works
why it doesn't work
which really allows me
to favor the choice
of the drawing
that I will detail
later
to be sure
and certain
that my idea
will be credible
from the beginning
to the end
so here you see
we make a lot of proposals
and it's really good
to do that
because you simplify
the process
at each step
and I see too often
you know
people
they tend
to spend
10-20 hours
on a drawing
and there
they start to regret
to have spent time on it
because they didn't plan
the design
of their character
they go a little bit
improvised
which means
that in fact
they never finish
a drawing
and each time
they give up
because they get
to something
that doesn't satisfy them
enough
to make their character
so you see
I take a lot of time
at the beginning
to find the right idea
to find the right references
to pay attention
to the design
the language of shapes
which I remind you
is very very important
and which allows me
to really make sure
that I'm going to like it
that I'm going to have fun
on the future drawing
of my character
so here
it's interesting
it's that
you see here
sometimes
when I make the silhouette
and that I block
on the design
anyway
on this design
I feel that I block
on it
it means
that it's not a good sign
you see
it means
that it's a design
that I'm going to put aside
and it's very interesting
because
it's very important
to have designs
that you're going to throw away
and the designs
that you want to keep
because the number
in fact
to have a lot of designs
it allows you to compare
and the comparison
it works
only as
at least two designs
you see
it's the theory of one
that is
when you have
a single choice
it means
it's a bad sign
you see
for example
in a dictatorship
you often have
a single political party
and that's not a very good sign either
it's like in design
the more diversity you have
the more choices you'll have
the more it will allow you
to find
what suits you best
obviously
the opposite
the opposite problem
is when you have too many choices
when you have too many choices
it's hard to choose
but we'll talk about that
after the silhouettes
you see here
I came across
a silhouette
that interests me a lot
with lines
curves
everywhere
that are super dynamic
it's super cool
here
I'm on a witch
you see here
it's a little basic
this witch
I'm not a big fan
but it has a side
that is
rather seductive
you see
with her dress
with her little neckline
which is quite visible
it's classy
it's sensual
then here
she's a little bit
too angry
I find
with the shadows
of the eyes
that I drew
but the problem here
you see
when you put on a silhouette
you realize
that it's a little flat
you see
there's just her head
with the feathers
that work
but the rest of the body
it's too banal
it's a little
it's too flat
it's a little
it's not quite
there's not enough
of shape
on the silhouette
unlike the others
here the same
on this one
it's why
this one
I don't think
I'm going to keep it
I know that
it respects very well
the Celtics
but
you see
the design
it's too flat
there's not enough
shape
coming out
of the silhouette
it doesn't work at all
And then towards the end, what I like is to add a little bit of silhouettes by erasing and adding things.
There, I also try to add white lines to, let's say, make up the design a little bit, but it's not very interesting.
Well, after, don't hesitate to try things.
I try and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work and too bad, it doesn't matter.
Here, I finally finished all my silhouettes, it took time, it's still three, four days of work.
It's a lot of work, but at least it allows me to be sure, as I told you, to find the right shape for my witch.
And what's interesting to do and very important is that when you draw a character, it's always interesting to write your pitch.
So here, what I do is that I re-read the pitch that I wrote to draw this character.
Because you know, the most important thing when you create your characters is to never forget your initial idea.
That is to say that your initial idea, when you develop it, you can lose track.
Because in the end, you have a character that doesn't look like anything, that doesn't tell a story and that makes you think of nothing at all.
So it's very interesting and very important to re-read the pitch.
This will allow me to make the choice.
From these choices, I found myself with only five choices that I'm going to wait a few days to choose.
So in fact, in the next video, I'm going to choose the right character.
So it would be interesting to have your opinion.
You will tell me in the comments which is your favorite silhouette.
You see here, it's the five silhouettes that I extracted from the 15 silhouettes.
So what I love about this silhouette is that we have a witch who is rather warlike.
I have the impression that it's the four things.
With her thighs that are rather muscular.
I see her well with super powers where she can throw wind blows here.
I should put more feathers here, a little more exaggerated.
I like this silhouette a lot because we have a dynamic effect.
I feel like it's a fox.
It looks like she can slide a little between the trees.
She can fly in the shade, something like that.
Here, I find it a little too classic.
It looks a little bit demonic with the horns like that.
But after that, these horns were based on mushrooms.
So you'll have to see.
And I know that when I showed this to people, it was this silhouette that they preferred the most.
After that, I admit, this is my favorite with this one for now.
I'm really hesitating between these five.
But I don't think I'm going to go with this one because I find it too banal.
But to see, I could get this idea and mix it up.
That's what's good.
The next step is to identify what you like.
Gather these elements and of course stay consistent.
There is this one that I like a lot.
And this one too, I like it a lot.
But there is better.
So I'm not very sure.
I prefer to wait a few days before making my decision.
So the next step would be to choose a few silhouettes.
To make a final silhouette.
And then from this final silhouette, we will draw the final character.
So in the next video, I'm going to develop this character again.
So if you're interested in character development, subscribe to this channel for the rest.
Because I'm going to create a lot of characters.
There are also lesbians.
There are also secondary characters.
There are also a lot of characters that I'm going to show on this channel.
To illustrate my Celtic fantasy universe with mushroom zombies.
And wild boar druids.
Witches.
Raven witches.
And Romans.
Romans.
And Romans in red who are going to hit Celtics.
So if you're interested, subscribe to this channel.
So I'll see you next time.
Bye.
